New AFOL Survey

LEGO wants to hear from you! It’s been awhile since I posted a survey that was communicated to us through the Ambassador program, but this one is a little more substantial than the last. Some of the questions are ambiguous, so it’s unclear exactly what LEGO is fishing for.

Also, if you’re not a member of any actual LUG, be sure to put down FBTB. :-D

Clarification: Shop@Home Catalog Coupon

LEGO Brand Retail

I’ve been asked to clarify a point on a post I made a few days ago about a coupon that appeared on the back of my LEGO Shop@Home catalog:

  • The 10% coupon offer was sent to all catalog subscribers within a 60 mile radius of a LEGO Store.
  • To redeem the coupon, the physical coupon must be presented in store.
  • The offer cannot be used online or over the phones.

No More Amazon Affiliation

Thanks to the shortsightedness of our elected leaders in Sacramento, Amazon has terminated FBTB’s affiliate relationship due to California legislature attempting to collect tax on online sales. Warning: Political rant ensuing.

LEGOLAND Deutschland Star Wars Fan Display

The trench run from episode 4 ... A new hope.

LEGOLAND CA wasn’t the only park to have Star Wars Days. LEGOLAND Deutschland hosted their own event recently. Dutch Moonbase was on hand with an extremely impressive collaborative display featuring the Death Star Trench Run and a Tatooine landscape. Some pictures are in our flickr Outpost, tons more on Dutch Moonbase’s web page.

Bothcon: Special M-wing Door Prize

White M-Wing

Last M-wing post for today, I promise.

As part of our plans for Bothcon, we assembled a very special M-wing kit that had a nearly-all white M-wing. Only the Technic pins and printed tiles were in their original colors. We even created a white Bothcon minifig Ace pilot. We instructed the attendees to not open their kits or trade their bags until the very end. Forum member Datoth (Jason Daubert) was the lucky winner. His door prize package consisted of Chrome C-3PO, Chrome Stormtrooper (polybag), Chrome Darth Vader, White Boba Fett, San Diego Comic Con CubeDude set, and the Star Wars Celebration V CubeDude set.

Thanks to Datoth for providing pictures that I was shortsighted to take.

M-wing Powerpoint File and Parts List Update

Forum member minicoop4 has compiled all of the instructions for Jon Palmer’s M-wing into a Powerpoint file so you can download it and build it offline if you wish. He also double-checked the parts list and found two errors:

  • 6 Light Gray Brick 1×2 (instead of 5)
  • 9 Light Gray Plate 1×2 (instead of 10)

The instructions page has already been updated.

Thanks minicoop4!

LEGO Shop@Home, Brand Retail Promotions

LEGO Brand Retail

There’s a couple of LEGO Shop@Home promotions going on right now that’s worth mentioning:

Sales and Deals: Their Sales and Deals page still has quite a few sets on sale. You can check out the original post for some quick links.

Free Shipping: Order $75 dollars or more before tax and shipping and you can get free shipping on your order. Offer is good through 11:59pm EST July 15th, 2011. Check out the full details.

Free Kingdoms Polybag set: If you manage to hit the $75 threshold for free shipping, you’ll also score a free Kingdoms polybag set (#30062). Item is automatically added to cart upon checkout.

10% off coupon: I received the latest Shop@Home catalog in the mail today and on the back of the catalog was a 10% off coupon good at LEGO Brand Retail stores. 10% isn’t much, better than nothing, and it’s good to see coupons like this for the stores.

How To Save 40% On LEGO Cars Sets

Right now, Toys’R’Us stores are having two promotions that stack with each other netting you a total 40% discount on LEGO Cars sets.

Promotion 1: BOGO 50% on all LEGO sans Star Wars, POTC, or Alien Conquest. But it works on Cars sets.

Promotion 2: All Cars construction sets are 20% off.

Now you’re probably thinking, “what about the TRU markup?” Last I checked, which was this morning at 11:00am, there is no mark up except for their exclusive set, 8679 Tokyo International Circuit, and that markup is only in store. It’s priced at $98.99 instead of MSRP of $89.99. Online, the price is $89.99 before discount. And you get free shipping if your order is over $100. Still, all other sets are at MSRP. To maximize the discount, you’ll have to get two of the same priced sets.

Example: 8487 Flo’s V8 Cafe is regularly $59.99. With the Cars promotion, the set drops down to $47.99 Getting two sets with BOGO, your total is $71.98 before tax. $120 worth of sets for $72 bucks is 40% off. Not too shabby.

They’re also running another promotion where if you spend more than $25 on Cars 2 toys you get their exclusive metallic Lightning McQueen toy, pictured below:

Both promotions end this Friday, July 2.

ThinkGeek’s Having a LEGO Sale Too!

The Tauntaun Sleeping Bag - Invented at ThinkGeek!

First thing: FBTB is now an affiliate of ThinkGeek. So, next time you have the urge to splurge for some nerd merch, think of us first! There’s a button now on the sidebar, or you can just right-click the ad above and select Save as Bookmark and replace your current ThinkGeek bookmark with ours. Every penny helps.

Second thing: ThinkGeek is having a BOGO 50% sale on all LEGO items. Use coupon code 1GBB to knock $5 off your order of $30 or more, or $10 off your order of $60 or more. Some of licensing stuff (like LEGO lamps, digital cameras, etc) are already reduced, making your potential savings even more geektastic.

TRU’s Buy 2 Get 3rd 90% Off Sale

Right now, TRU is having a Buy 2 Get 3rd 90% off sale on all LEGO, no restrictions. That’s roughly 30% off depending on if the sets you buy have mark up and assuming you buy 3 similarly priced items. Not sure when this promotion started or when it ends because their online site doesn’t say squat. But I’m gonna guess it started today and ends Sunday. Will update if I get confirmation Saturday. Online prices seem to be MSRP on the few sets I checked out. In store, prices will more than likely have the infamous mark up. If you order online, you get free shipping.

Update: JamesBenjamin from the forum reports that it’s good today and tomorrow, Saturday.

Thanks to Billy for writing it in.
