“If You’re Gonna Build a Time Machine into a Car…

… why not do it with some style?”

I saw this pop up in the Flickr LEGO Group, and knew it was something that we certainly had to feature. Misterzumbi has his own take on the DeLorean from back to the future that does more than a few things right. First and most obvious, it’s silver. Second, it showcases the changes throughout the movies, which is very nice. Third, it’s just nice looking! Look at how nice that inside looks!

This shot really shows off the design of it, getting the 50s madcap on the front and whitewalls added by Doc Brown, and the good-ole Mr. Fusion in the back for running the time circuits. You can check out some more pictures on Misterzumbi’s photostream on Flickr.

21103 Back To The Future Time Machine Images Revealed

Hoth Bricks and Brickshelf user grogall have found official box art for the upcoming CUUSOO set, 21103 Back to the Future Time Machine. As previously reported, the set will go on sale this Thursday July 18 through LEGO Shop@Home and LEGO Brand Retail and most likely other online vendors such as Amazon and Toys’R’Us. Still no word on price though but stay tuned as we try and find out more details.

Lars’ DeLorean

DeLorean Open Door

It’s been a while since we’ve featured a MOC from Larry Lars so I’m more than thrilled to be reporting on this one. I was linked to his teaser shots before the weekend and now it seems he’s completed his own Back To The Future DeLorean Time Machine. He has nailed the look at an almost impossible scale. There are tons of details that make you wish there were more than the four pictures in his photostream. All that’s missing is some of the sweet printed tiles of the dashboard and the flux capacitor from the upcoming official LEGO CUUSOO set to make it, in my opinion, one of if not the best DeLorean MOCs out there. If he decides to make a kit, sign me up. Heck, I’d take even just the instructions and source the parts myself to recreate this bad boy. I’d love to do a side by side comparison with 21103 Back to the Future Time Machine when it’s finally released in mid-July.

Back To The Future Set Revealed

LEGO CUUSOO Back To The Future DeLorean

UK-based LEGO fansite Brick Fanatics gives us the first glimpse of the LEGO CUUSOO project, Back to the Future, from a LEGO store newsletter obtained in the store. After achieving the required 10,000 votes on LEGO CUUSOO over 6 months ago, the set is now a reality and according to the image, will be available for purchase starting July 18th. There doesn’t seem to be any minifigs included in the set as none are pictured. There IS a flux capacitor, however the model designers somehow managed to make an already terrible rendition of the DeLorean look even worse. I’ll reserve final judgment until I get my hands on the set but it’s not looking pretty.

The on-sale date happens to coincide with San Diego Comic Con which is happening July 17-21. Coincidence? We shall see.

Mind Games: Interview with Brandon Griffith

Even if you don’t know who Brandon Griffith is you are probably well aware of his work, especially since we just posted his Return of the Jedi chess set last night. As icgetaway he’s created the extremely well recieved Star Wars Chess Board Trilogy among many other builds and the recently successful STUDS collectible trading cards Kickstarter campaign. As a quarter of OneLug he’s participated in building what is possibly the biggest and best loved of the Lord of the Rings MOC’s to date, so who is the man in the beaver’d hat and where does he get those wonderful toys?

CUUSOO Back to the Future Entry Reaches 10,000 Votes

It was only a matter of time. M.togami’sBack to the Future(BTTF) – DeLorean Time Machine” LEGO CUUSOO entry has reached its goal. Does this mean we’ll have a LEGO DeLorean in our future? Maybe. Maybe not. Consider the licensing that is likely required. Universal Pictures. Amblin Entertainment. DeLorean Motor Company. It’s quite a hurdle beyond designing a set that might one day grace store shelves or LEGOShop, but hopefully it’s a hurdle that LEGO is willing to overcome to deliver a stellar and geek-tastic product. Who knows, perhaps LEGO has considered a Back to the Future license in the past and the paperwork’s already been done…
