DC seems to be all-in with villain movies, protagonists that don’t really get to be the main focus of an epic popcorn movie. Most super hero movies are all about the good guys defeating the bad guys, but I don’t think there’s ever been a Marvel film focusing on a villain. Venom maybe? But DC, after cancelling it’s plans on a DC Cinematic Universe, are focusing on individual, non-connected, movies now. Suicide Squad was their first villain-centric movie. It did pretty well I think, raking in just under $750 million to date. So why not go with a Joker movie? I don’t have a good answer to that question so it’ll be interesting to see how it does.
I know I’m kind of all over the place with this post. It’s just an interesting wrinkle in comic book movie genre. And my thoughts haven’t quite coalesced yet.
Joker will be in theaters on October 4th, 2019.
