With the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on Blu-ray/DVD tomorrow, and Target having their exclusive version that comes with an exclusive Bilbo Baggins minifigure, and with the announcement of the exclusive Special Forces Commander Clone Trooper minifigure included with The Yoda Chronicles book, I figured now would be as good of a time as any to make a checklist for all the exclusive minifigs that came with a book, video game, or Blu-ray/DVD release.

Just a friendly reminder that the follow-up to Lego Star Wars: The Padawan Menace, The Empire Strikes Out is being released across the pond in the UK tomorrow March 18. For us here in the colonies, the US release date is set for March 26th, Canada too. If you can get past continuity issues and you enjoyed Padawan Menace, you’ll like this one as well:
Your favorite characters are back to save the galaxy in LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out. The heroes of the Rebel Alliance including heroic Luke Skywalker, swaggering Han Solo and steadfast Princess Leia have no time to celebrate their victory over the Empire as a new Imperial threat arises. But as Jedi-in-training Luke embarks on this next mission, he discovers that his celebrity status as a “Death-Star-Blower-Upper” can be a double-edged lightsaber when he’s constantly mobbed by crazed fans. So much for secret missions! Meanwhile, Darth Vader and Darth Maul are locked in a hilarious “Sith-ling” rivalry as they compete for the Emperor’s approval. It’s an action-packed comic adventure that’s out of this world!
Unfortunately for Blu-ray collectors, there is no Blu-ray edition of the show, which is really, really odd. I mean, why not just release it on Laser Disc or Betamax to really push the annoyance factor up? But you do get a medal ceremony Darth Vader exclusive minifigure to make up for it.
Update: You can now see the trailer at StarWars.com
LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace director, Michael Price, confirmed yesterday on his Twitter account that a new LEGO Star Wars TV special is on it’s way. A quick browsing of TVGuide.com yields the air date: Wednesday September 26, 2012 at 8:00pm on Cartoon Network with reruns at various times days after. They also give the following synopsis:
New celebrity Luke begins a secret mission but is thwarted by his fans; Darth Vader clashes with Darth Maul.
Excited? I am.
Den of Geek is reporting that the UK airdate for the LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace is confirmed for Monday October 24, 2011 at 6pm on Cartoon Network with repeats the following week. The DVD release is scheduled for November 7 and will be a Tesco exclusive.
Let it be known that I prefer referring sales to Amazon if the price for a particular item is the same as another retailer since they offer both free shipping to your home and no charges for sales tax to most states. But Walmart’s affiliate program gave me an offer I couldn’t refuse, so I figure I’d make a post to try and push some sales. So, if you live in a state that doesn’t charge sales tax or you don’t mind paying it to support the state you live in, and you don’t mind supporting Walmart, and you want to support FBTB, and you don’t mind picking up your order with free site-to-store shipping, then maybe there’s a deal or two here for you.
If you haven’t picked up Star Wars on Blu-ray yet, Walmart is offering the complete saga for $79.99. They also have the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy both for $39.99. And lastly, LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace is a Walmart exclusive and can still be had for a measly $13 dollars. If you have little ones that are into LEGO Star Wars, a small investment will provide hours of entertainment.
In Cars 2 news, there is a Walmart-exclusive Blu-ray/DVD combo pack that also comes with a diecast car of Finn McMissile. No details yet if this version of the British spy is any different than the one that’s clogging up the pegs everywhere you go, but if it is we’ll let you know. The combo pack + car will run you $29.96. If you care more about 3D Blu-ray than a collectible, the 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray/DVD combo pack might suit you better at $31.96. And if you don’t care about either and just want the movie, there’s a deal for that too for $24.96. All of the Cars 2 preorders will ship free to your home on the day it’s released on November 1, 2011.
For all you Pirates of the Caribbean fans, there’s a Walmart-exclusive release of the Blu-ray/DVD for On Stranger Tides that includes a Pirate Tin Bank. The tin bank set will set you back $24.96. This item will ship free to your home on October 18, 2011.
And finally, for you comic book movie fans, there’s Thor on Blu-ray/DVD for $22.96 plus a 3D version for $7 dollars more ($29.96), both with free Site-to-Store shipping. I think it’s funny that Green Lantern on Blu-ray/DVD costs more ($24.96) than Thor considering how terrible Green Lantern was. There’s a 3D version as well for $29.96. Green Lantern stinks up the DVD aisles on October 14, 2011.
This is like my sixth time trying to finish this review. Since it’s coming out this Friday on Blu-ray/DVD, I guess I should finish it. It’s not because it’s a terrible show, I think I just get too wordy for my own good. So I’ll try and keep this short. (more…)
That’s right it’s finally coming to Canada just a week before it drops for sale in the US. I know I’m not the only one looking forward to getting our chance to see it and I hope it hits Canadian Walmart’s next week as well. It will air this Friday Sept. 9th at 7:30 EST on Teletoon, check your local listings just to be sure. If you’re familiar with Teletoon, you know they aren’t great with promotion or making with the info.
Update: In case it wasn’t made clear, the Blu-ray is a Walmart Exclusive. That’s right, no other outlet will be selling the set so get your preorder in while the price is still $13.00.
Missed the special on TV? Want to see it again? Walmart.com has put up a pre-order for the Blu Ray + DVD release of “LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace.” The Blu Ray includes an exclusive “Young Han Solo” minifigure. While this figure has no exclusive parts, it’s a neat little incentive to pre-order. Price is $13.00 with free shipping.
Best part? The release also includes crisp, high-definition versions of:
- Hunt for R2-D2
- Bombad Bounty
- Star Wars in Two Minutes (Part 1)
- Star Wars in Two Minutes (Part 2)
- Star Wars Clone Wars In Cinema

Given away at the LEGO booth was a folded up poster of all of the 2011 minifigs from LEGO Star Wars. On the bottom border, there’s a line about the TV Special, The Padawan Menace, airing on Cartoon Network. In the bottom right corner are details about the Blu-ray release set for September 16th of this year. And the most interesting thing about it? There is an exclusive minifig of a character from the show (he’s the one behind Yoda).
Lego’s passed along the official teaser for Cartoon Network’s upcoming LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace
