I got an email notice yesterday that the new handheld with a crank that I am SO looking forward to, Playdate, will be available for pre-orders starting Thursday July 29, 2021 at 10am PDT. The email also stressed that pre-orders will NOT sell out. I’d like to think that them emphasizing that little factoid is to alleviate any FOMO that can be prevalent when it comes to pre-orders. This is not going to be a limited item and as I understand it, it will be a rolling fulfillment so pre-orders will be shipped in the order they are received. The only catch is that you have to pre-pay in full but you can cancel at any time for a full refund. The first 20,000 units will ship later this year and the rest starting in 2022. Pre-orders are limited to two per person. The Playdate console and Playdate Cover will be available, with the stereo dock coming later this year.
