    Star Wars: Evolved Rule Clarification

This is a brief update that I’m posting separately to make sure it gets noticed. I’ve added a clarification to the rules due to some confusion about the build challenge:

“Build your own updated version” means exactly what it says – you can’t modify an official set and submit it, you have to build your own updated version. Start from scratch.

I thought that went without saying, but so far we’ve had two members to go that route so I’ve amended the rules to make it explicitly clear. Sorry about that everyone.

Star Wars: Evolved Contest Update, Now With Posters!

Tonight marks the halfway point for our latest contest, and at the request of a few members and with the help of another we’ve added an additional incentive to the prize pool: now the top seven ranked entries will each receive one of these 18″x24″ posters featuring the design from the announcement post. I’m sure you can all figure out why we went with such an odd number of prize slots.

In case you missed the announcement, the challenge is to pick some canon ship or vehicle from before The Force Awakens and put your own spin on it – create an evolved version like what they’ve done with the X-Wings and TIE fighters now that a few decades have passed in the Star Wars universe. All the specifics can be found here and the deadline is four weeks from midnight tonight (that’s 11:59PM PST January 16th 2016).

Thanks again to Firespray for providing the prints, and ravingrem for the idea. Good luck builders!

Star Wars: Evolved Fly-in at Bricks LA

Hello fellow Bothans! Are you aware of our latest building contest, Star Wars: Evolved? The deadline for the contest is January 16th but if you live in the Los Angeles area and will be attending Bricks LA as a VIB on January 8-10, consider bringing your model to the show! We will have a smaller separate display area as part of the Space theme. Anyone who brings and displays their model will receive a Red-armed C-3PO for participating. The deadline to register as a VIB is this Saturday December 12th. Come and join in on the fun!

  • Star Wars: Evolved Contest Announcement!

    Star Wars: Evolved Contest Announcement!

The Force Awakens is just under a month away now, and we’ve already had a taste of the action with the trailers and toys and myriad of marketing tie ins everywhere. One of the first things that stuck out to everyone is how familiar things seemed. The good guys are still flying X-Wings, the bad guys are flying TIEs… but these aren’t your father’s starfighters. These are different. They’ve been upgraded. They evolved.

This was done very deliberately. They want everything to really feel like this is all taking place thirty years after the Star Wars we remember, so the designs are grounded in what we know. But there’s only so much you can do in one movie and even less to show in a few minutes of trailers. We’re left with a universe full of ideas waiting to grow and expand upon, and that’s where you come in.

This is your chance to put your own spin on your favorite craft from Star Wars. You can make it as subtle as the ships they’ve shown so far, or push it well beyond the 30 year jump from ROTJ to TFA. And knowing that contests around this time of the year can be daunting endeavors, we’ve set up an extended build window to accommodate: eight full weeks to work with. You can get the full details by expanding this post or checking out the thread in the forum.

Nerdvember Building Contest Focuses On Star Wars

Tommy over at BrickNerd is doing his annual Nerdvember building contest. The idea is to take the site’s mascot, Nerdly, and build a Star Wars-themed MOC around it. He’s got a flickr group going with all of the information you’ll need. You can check out last year’s entries for inspiration and to see what this whole Nerdvember thing is all about.

  • Results For MOC the 80s! Contest

The week long poll just wrapped up and we have ourselves a winner: Trooper10’s fantastic Bluesmobile from The Blues Brothers!
It’s got cop tires, cop shocks, and 29 total votes – earning the top prize of a 21108 Ecto-1 and 21109 Exo Suit. Plus if he chooses to submit it to Ideas we’ll keep you up to date with the progress. I had a feeling this one would do well in the poll. Awesome job Chris.

Landing in second place with 21 votes is DagsBricks’ Benny from Who Framed Roger Rabbit:
Of all the possible choices for the contest this one didn’t even enter my mind, but he nailed it. It’ll look great with the 75902 Mystery Machine.

Congratulations to both of our winners, and thanks again to everyone who built and voted.

18 Hour Reminder for MOC the 80s! Contest

As the clock strikes midnight we enter into the final day for submissions, and although I’m still holding on to hope that we’ll get a last minute surge of entries we’ve already got some real contenders lined up and I’m looking forward to seeing which ones everyone will favor. This is the last heads up before the deadline, so make sure you get yours submitted today if you’ve built anything. I’ll have the poll up and running shortly after if all goes according to plan.

  • Less than a week remaining to MOC the 80s!

Less than a week remaining to MOC the 80s!

The finish line is now just five days away in our latest contest, and although the submission thread is looking a little sparse the builders have definitely brought their A-game. I wouldn’t be surprised if a number of you out there are saving this weekend to polish up your MOCs, getting ready for a dramatic reveal in the final stretch. The deadline is this coming Wednesday night, 11:59PM PST September 30th. The full rules are posted here but the gist if you’ve missed it is build a pop culture car from a classic 80’s movie or TV show. Best of luck!
