2011 Podracer Challenge Trophy Part 1

A little while ago, we hosted probably our most ambitious and whackiest contests ever, the 2011 Podracer Challenge. The contest had two winners: the fan favorite determined by popular vote and the race winner or what I like to call last man standing. Before he became a staff writer, Tommy “roguefx” Williamson took top honors as the fan favorite with his McPod racer above. One of the prizes in the prize package was a mini model of the winning podracer as a trophy. Well, Ryan was finally able to put this together in time for Brickcon to personally hand deliver it to Tommy:

McTrophy 03

Pretty nice, huh? We may deliver prizes late, but we deliver them. We are still working on Fatyankee’s trophy and will feature it here soon.

2011 Podracer Challenge: Winners!

First, thank you to all the participants who created entries for this contest. We had a great turnout, with some fantastic building all around.

After a rapid-fire Lap 2 and 3 last night, with some extremely tense moments and a crazy 3-way tie for 2nd place, we have a Race Champion in the 2011 Podracer Challenge!

Krabby Poddy (isometric point of view)

Fatyankee’s Krabby Poddy wins!

The Krabby Poddy made it through the qualifying round that you all voted on, and then survived 3 grueling laps filled with Good and Bad events that you chose. The die was not kind to our racers, doling out bad after bad after bad event. But the Krabby Poddy came out on top!

Also, congrats to roguefx‘s McPod racer which took the fan favorite prize in the qualifying round!

Here’s a reminder of what they win:
– The Fan Favorite will receive a special, one-of-a-kind, personalized LEGO Trophy commemorating their victory, 1 copy of 7962 Anakin’s and Sebulba’s Podracer, 1 MISB copy of 4485 MINI Sebulba’s Podracer & Anakin’s Podracer, and 1 copy of 7961 Darth Maul’s Sith Infiltrator
– The Race Champion will also receive a special, one-of-a-kind, personalized LEGO Trophy commemorating their victory, 1 copy of 7962 Anakin’s and Sebulba’s Podracer, and 1 MISB copy of 4485 MINI Sebulba’s Podracer & Anakin’s Podracer.

Podracer Challenge: Laps 2 and 3 Tonight!

After some horrible hangups en route to getting the race started yesterday afternoon, Lap 1 pretty effectively changed the game for many players.
Here are the standings as we head into Lap 2 at 5 pm PST tonight on UStream:
Standings as of end of Lap 1

Here’s the spreadsheet where each point modified is added as each event is drawn.

After the race is over we’ll post a play-by-play of all the events and show how everything went down, just in case the (boring) video doesn’t cut it for you.

2011 Podracer Challenge: The Big Race

2011 Podracer Challenge

Greetings, programs! You might remember: our weeklong poll ended dramatically with a 3-way tie for the 24th spot in the race. After giving our brave pilots (and their podracers!) some cooldown time, we’re ready for the main event: the podrace itself!

When: Saturday May 7th at 4pm PST / 7pm EST
Where: UStream channel Podracer Challenge 2011

The Race is a 3-Lap video broadcast of those 26 racers each getting a turn to roll a die, which has blue sides and red sides. Red sides are bad events, blue are good. You roll blue, you draw a card from the Good Event pile; red from the Bad Event pile. These events will consist of some action and a point modifier, for example: “dodge a stalagmite. Well played. +5 pts” or “you failed to dodge that stalagmite. Joker laughs. -5 pts.” Your points at the start of the race equal the number of votes you got in the poll. Points will be modified as each event dictates during the course of each lap and will change the positions of those 26 racers, and after all 26 have had an event drawn, the lap is over and the lowest 14 will be axed from the race. Lap 2 will feature the remaining 12 racers rolling the die again, and Lap 3 will be the final 6 racers battling it out in the same process. The racer with the most points at the end of Lap 3 is the Race Winner.

I’m estimating this whole race will take between 45 minutes and an hour. For those who can’t be there live, we’ll be posting the video on the site afterwards.

Hope to see you tomorrow!
