Lars’ DeLorean

DeLorean Open Door

It’s been a while since we’ve featured a MOC from Larry Lars so I’m more than thrilled to be reporting on this one. I was linked to his teaser shots before the weekend and now it seems he’s completed his own Back To The Future DeLorean Time Machine. He has nailed the look at an almost impossible scale. There are tons of details that make you wish there were more than the four pictures in his photostream. All that’s missing is some of the sweet printed tiles of the dashboard and the flux capacitor from the upcoming official LEGO CUUSOO set to make it, in my opinion, one of if not the best DeLorean MOCs out there. If he decides to make a kit, sign me up. Heck, I’d take even just the instructions and source the parts myself to recreate this bad boy. I’d love to do a side by side comparison with 21103 Back to the Future Time Machine when it’s finally released in mid-July.

Ninjago Movie in Early Stage is reporting that a Ninjago movie is in the works based on ‘positive reaction’ to the Lego movie trailer. Now, my reaction to the Lego movie trailer was as positive as to any trailer since Pacific Rim but I think that is because the movie looks witty and fun (and has a classic space guy), not because I really want more Lego movies for the sake of Lego movies.

Ninjago Poster from

I guess time will tell.

Thanks to our friends at Brickset for pointing us towards the article.

Update: Hollywood Reporter has a few more details on the project. Brothers Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman, who have a credit in The LEGO Movie, will be writing the Ninjago movie. They were also the writers behind the Ninjago television series on Cartoon Network so the movie should be in good hands.

Amazon Discounts LEGO Super Heroes

Star Wars isn’t the only theme getting hit by the discount hammer as Amazon is also discounting many Super Heroes sets. The discounts may not be as great, ranging from 10-15% but there are a few sets worth mentioning outright.

LEGO Superman sets are brand new, and I’m assuming they’re on sale to help promote the movie. In any case, if you were waiting for a sale to pick them up, maybe now’s the time. The best deal is on the cheapest set. They have 76002 Superman: Metropolis Showdown discounted down a whopping 23%, down to $9.97 from $12.99 MSRP.

They also have the other two on sale: 76009 Superman: Black Zero Escape is down to $17.00 (15% discount) and 76003 Superman: Battle of Smallville is down to $42.97 (14% discount). Still looking for non-movie Supes? 6862 Superman Vs Power Armor Lex is also discounted 15% down to $17.00.

On the Marvel side, 6869 Quinjet Aerial Battle is discounted 24% down to $53.19 from $69.99 MSRP.

And finally, 6866 Wolverine Chopper Showdown. I’ve been keeping my eye on this one and this set is finally seeing a decent sale price of $16.14, a 19% discount off of $19.99 MSRP. You get Wolverine, Magneto, and Deadpool all in one set with a great dark red parts pack helicopter model.

Most everything else hovers around a 10% discount, so check out LEGO Super Heroes on Amazon for more deals.

Amazon Discounts LEGO Star Wars

Methinks Amazon is trying to make some room for the summer wave of sets by discounting a bunch of older sets. Rather than make 1 post for each set I’ll just a list a bunch of them here. Nearly everything is on sale 20% off or more. I’m not sure if Walmart’s or Target’s prices are comparable or if either of them discounted their own stock to trigger Amazon’s discounts, but no matter the reason, now would be a great time to fill the holes in your collection on the cheap.

Amazon Discounts 75000 Clone Troopers vs Droidekas

To keep the discount train rolling, Amazon is now discounting 75000 Clone Troopers vs Droidekas down to $9.97 from $12.99 MSRP, matching Walmart’s rollback price on the same set. Same as the 75001 Republic Troopers vs. Sith Troopers deal from a few days ago: with Amazon you’ll need to order at least three to qualify for Free Super Saver Shipping if you’re not a Prime member and there’s no tax to most states. Walmart will charge tax but offer free in-store pickup or .97 cents shipping to your home.

Review: 79000 Riddles for the Ring

Full Set - Riddles for the Ring

Quick, what do I have in my pocket? Okay, yes, it might be a bit of a spoiler, but seriously, if you haven’t read the book or seen the movie, there’s nothing I can do to help you. And this movie has been out on BluRay for a couple of months now, so… no real excuse. While my movie review was harsh all around to the first outing of The Hobbit trilogy, the sets have been a lot more interesting. And while a lot of the movie was a big deviation from the books, the one scene it got spot-on was the exchange between Bilbo and Gollum, telling riddles back and forth. At $10, this set comes in lower than similar sets in other lines, so the real question is… does that make it worth it?

New TMNT Polybag 30270

Forum member Ultron32 writes in to let us know of a new polybag that’s been spotted in the wild. This as of yet unnamed polybag, numbered 30270, is very interesting for two reasons. For one it’s a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles polybag and two it features all four ninja in microscale form. It also features a Kraang minifig along with a walker drone. No word yet on availability but we’ll report something as soon as we find out. If you know where to obtain one of these precious sets drop us a line.

Amazon Discounts Republic Vs. Sith Battle Pack

Amazon is discounting The Old Republic inspired set 75001 Republic Troopers vs Sith Troopers down to $9.97 from $12.99 MSRP. Obviously this is in response to Walmart pricing the same set down to the same price. Amazon offers free 2-day shipping with Prime, otherwise you’d need get three to hit the Free Super Saver Shipping threshold of $25 which shouldn’t be hard to do since these ARE indeed battle packs. They also do not charge sales tax to most states. Walmart has free in-store pickup or .97 cents delivery to your home but chances are you’ll pay tax. Pick your poison.

Great Scott! There ARE Minifigs With The DeLorean!

But the model still looks like crap.

UK-based Brick News has gotten a hold of what appears to be an internal document detailing talking points and showing the complete set of 21103 Back to the Future Time Machine. It does indeed include Marty McFly and Doc Brown and a skateboard. No sign of Einstein however. The document makes a point that a user can customize the time machine into one of three models based on the three versions of the vehicle from the three different movies. There is also a small thumbnail of the packaging and a picture of the dashboard showing the travel dates. Brick News is also reporting that the UK price of the 21103 is set at £34.99. Still no word on a US price. The set is scheduled to go on sale on July 18.

And if you’re like me and everyone else who’s laid eyes on the set and wish it looked more like source material, Masashi, who created the original Back to the Future LEGO CUUSOO project, has another project of a UCS-type, remote control, power functions DeLorean.
