30059 MTT Shows Up in Canada

TRU Canada Sells Polybags

Toys N Bricks is reporting that 30059 MTT is now available from Toys’R’Us stores in Canada. The set was previously thought to be exclusive to the Japan market and thus, the limited supply on Bricklink commanded high price tags. Toys’R’Us Canada is selling 30059 MTT as well as 8028 TIE Fighter and 30056 Star Destroyer for a mere $4.99. No word yet on US availability but we will report any developments once we get more information.

Jingle Bells! Batman Smells!

Jingle all the way!

When Si-MOCs‘ posted this diorama in the MOC showcase this morning I found it quite amusing, because my son just learned this song on the school bus yesterday and has been singing it ever since. It will be on display in December at the Toronto LEGO Store in Fairview, so if you’re in that neck of the woods be sure to check it out.

Man Proposes with LEGO Star Wars

Reddit user Cantankerous_Rancor does what every man does when it’s time to settle down: he got down on one knee, pulled out a ring box made out of LEGO, and proposed using two Star Wars minifigs. Okay, maybe not everyone has the inspiration or the guts to propose this way, but at least his approach was unique. And he definitely gets points for being creative about it. Good news is that she accepted. And a woman who can accept a proposal using a kid’s toy as a prop is a keeper in my book. You can see more pics of the ring box here and here.

Target Discounts 10221 Super Star Destroyer by 20% is a little late to the discount party, but that just means another opportunity for you to pick up something cheap. They currently have 10221 Super Star Destroyer for 20% off. Got a Target Red Card? You can get an additional 5% off of that. Item ships for free. And as usual, I expect Amazon to follow their lead.

You know with the number of times this set’s gone on sale the past few weeks, I almost feel like 20% isn’t even worth a look now. Make it 30%, and now you got something.

Walmart Discounts 10188 Death Star by 15%

Update: Amazon has now matched the price for 10188 Death Star.

Walmart blinks first as they are selling 10188 Death Star for only $339.97. That’s $60 off MSRP of $399.99, a 15% discount. Free shipping kicks in and you’ll be paying tax out the door. They haven’t yet, but expect Amazon to follow suit.

Thanks to Darren for sending it in.

Midi-Scale Star Destroyer Available Through Brickset & Chowren Toys

Here’s the skinny from Chowren Toys:

“We just got our hands on some old Star Wars sets and would like to offer them to Brickset readers. The set is LEGO Star Wars 8099, Midi-Scale Imperial Star Destroyer from 2010 which contains 423 pieces and retailed for $39.99 in the US. Our special Brickset promo price is US$25.00. Please use the promo code 8099BrickS to receive this special price. Limit 3 per customer and quantity is limited. At our price that is only $0.06 per piece!”

It’s a nice deal on a set that some may have missed and I felt it was a solid set in a theme I’d love to see more from. I think it’s great that Jason is sharing these deals with the Brickset community, so thanks to Jason & Huw!

Head to the store now and get yours while you can!

Review: 9470 Shelob Attacks

9470 - Overview 2

These last couple reviews for 2012 have been sitting on my to-do list for far too long, so I’m going to keep this one brief (Ha!) which should be no problem for what is the second smallest set in the first (and hopefully not last) wave of the LOTR theme. Admittedly, I’m no expert on the Rings trilogy and still haven’t been able to bring myself to crack the books even though I quite enjoyed the films in both theatrical and extended editions. Everytime those books find themselves at the top my reading queue, I find something else of interest and reshuffle until they’re back on the bottom. I’ve nothing against Tolkien, It’s just that I already have a good handle on what happens, have heard a great deal about what was not in the films (my wife is a huge fan) and to be honest fantasy in general is not really my thing. Oh, one more thing I’m not a big fan of… spiders.

The Hobbit Sets Trickle Into Amazon

Amazon has listed a few of The Hobbit sets on their site. A lower threshold for free shipping and no tax to most states might make this a better deal than Shop@Home but you do get VIP points with LEGO. Oddly enough, 79000 Riddles for The Ring is priced two dollars more than MSRP at $11.99. Shop@Home has this set for $9.99, so buyer beware. There’s a list below of what’s available. I’ll update this post throughout the day as more sets become searchable.
