MCU Phase One: Avengers Assembled Box Set Trailer

Marvel brought their Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled 10-Disc Limited Edition Six-Movie Collector’s Set to SDCC for a little show and tell before they released this trailer on Thursday. It’s a great looking set with a whack of extras and the price for pre-order on Amazon at the moment is $139.96 which is only $23 per movie. This set and the anticipation I’ve had for it is the reason I never bought any of these movies after Kevin Feige began to talk about the long-term plan for the MCU. It will also be the straw that breaks the camels back and forces me to buy a Blu-ray player…
Damn You 21st Century!

SDCC Avengers DVD Pre-order Poster

Our intrepid field reporter/head honcho type took these photo’s of the set in all its glory at SDCC where if you pre-ordered (for $189!) you’d get the sweet limited edition poster of the dvd packaging seen above.

Target Sale

Target is having a sale on some LEGO sets. Discounts vary from set to set, but there are a two notable item: the Gunship above for $39.99, down from $49.99, and 7877 Naboo Stafighter for $32.99, down from $49.99. Don’t forget, if you’re a Target card carrying member, you’ll get an additional 5% off. You can also use coupon code TGTBBF10 for an additional 10% off. I’m not sure if those stack.

In addition to the online deals, this is the season for Target store clearances on LEGO to make room for the summer waves so keep your eyes peeled and your wallets full.

Thanks go to Jazz and ufjason.

LEGO In DC’s Darkness & Light Exhibition

Nathan Sawaya was on hand to assemble and donate this brick built recreation of Jim Lee’s Batman: Justice painting to the We Can Be Heroes Darkness & Light Art Exhibition. took one of very few photos of the completed piece and while that’s a shame, I understand why few people would be lured away from the main events of SDCC to wander into this small, underhyped art show.
Photoblogger Mayoress also stopped by to get a look and got this shot of Sawaya’s Catwoman scupture and one of his previous Clark & Hal sculpts in flight.

There are two more chances to catch this exhibit on tour in Atlanta, GA – August 4-13th at the Phipps Plaza and Chicago, IL – September 19-26th venue TBA. Fan of Jim Lee’s artwork? You can buy a signed lithograph of the above painting from DC Entertainment. It’s not cheap, but it’s limited to 200 prints and 75% of the price goes directly to the charities supported by DC’s We Can Be Heroes intiative.

The Dark Knight Rises LEGO Set?

The Bat

I received this press release in an email this morning detailing Warner Bros. licensing agreements for toys and merch surrounding Nolan’s final Batman film. And seeing as to how the movie is opening up this weekend, I’m a little puzzled as to why it’s being sent out today and not like a few months ago. But that’s not why I’m posting this. I’m posting it because it mentions that LEGO is releasing a set to support the movie. The exact quote is:

SDCC Wrap Up – LEGO’s Giant Mural

SDCC LEGO Mural - 9

In what seems to be a convention tradition now, LEGO had a giant mural that booth visitors can help build. Since each day of the con had a certain theme, the 30’x7.5′ wall was divided into four even sections with each section dedicated to a day’s theme. The baseplates comprising the wall had a numbered grid printed on top corresponding to 6×6 stud plates. The 8×8 plates were also printed with colors where the matching 1×1 bricks are supposed to go. Once the 6×6 plate is complete, it is then hammered onto the wall.

[UK] Argos Clearance Sale

The new Argos catalogue comes out this weekend, so they’ve discounted quite a lot of older sets … you can check them out here.  There’s a nice discount on the pictured Millenium Falcon and also a heft discount on 10214 Tower Bridge (although not quite as nice as the recent discount on that!).

Marvel Reveals Plans For “Phase 2″ @ SDCC

Thor The Dark WorldCAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER logo | ©2012 Marvel Studios
Guardians Of The GalaxyAnt Man

In case you haven’t heard already, the Marvel Studios panel laid out plans for phase 2 of their long-reaching Cinematic Universe. The titles for the previously announced Thor and Captain America sequels were welcome additions after the highly original Iron Man 3. Thor The Dark World and Captain America The Winter Soldier were certainly not the biggest news though as Kevin Feige confirmed the rumours of a Guardians Of The Galaxy movie and even brought the first piece of concept art from the movie to give fans an idea of the design direction for the space focused film.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Concept Art

If LEGO continues to make sets based on the MCU, these films could offer a lot of new material and Guardians alone has the potential for great space sets and very unique minifigs (Rocket Raccoon!). Most interestingly though, may have been Edgar Wright’s inclusion in the panel, cementing the long in development Ant Man movie. Wright screened a test FX reel for the fans and while no formal announcement of release date or casting were made, I’m glad to see this movie is still on track and possibly included in the phase leading to the Avengers sequel. You can read more on and just about every other comic based site which are now frothing at the mouth, like who managed to get some shots of the newest suit in Tony Stark’s closet. I’ve stuck Iron Man at the end of this post because I’m just not a fan of this look, I’m much more interested in the Iron Patriot suit and some other plot rumours floating around about the other films. *cough* Falcon *cough*

This new suit can be sumed up in the best comment I’ve seen thus far: “Too much mustard.”

Two Towers In Two Minutes (Extended Edition)

This short film by Digital Wizards on Youtube has been around since June, but this is the first I’ve seen of it and that probably goes for many of us. It’s a fun look at the the second film that just happens to feature OneLug‘s “The Last March of the Ents” model as well as a Balrog by NorbyZERO. If you’ve got a few minutes, love LOTR and need a goofy chuckle then enjoy.
