Star Wars Advent Calendar – Day 17

Day 17 - Weapons Rack
Day 17 – Weapons Rack

They say home is where you hang your gun. Well maybe it’s just my Mom that says that, but never the less this is the day our Clone Pilot gets his gear. They gave the droid pilot his weapons, you didn’t expect they’d leave our poor clone unarmed did you? Another filler day touches down and spoils some possible future figs. TWO guns, a set of space binoculars and what’s this? A green lightsaber. I wonder who that could belong to…

10212 Imperial Shuttle Drops to $182, 10198 for $117

10212 Imperial Shuttle - 2

Amazon seems to be clearing out some inventory to make room for new stuff. Two price drops you should be aware of: first up is the UCS 10212 Imperial Shuttle for $182, down from $269.99. This is the best price we’ve seen on this set, even better than the Gold Box deal from a few weeks ago. They also have 10198 Tantive IV for $116.99, down from $149.99, a 22% discount. And finally, for LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean fans, 4183 The Mill is more than half off, $17.99, down from $39.99, a 55% discount.

LEGO’s Next Precious: LEGO Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit

LEGO The Lord of the Rings

You saw this coming, right? It seems like a perfect fit to me after LEGO basically dumped it’s Pirates theme to make room for Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean line. They’re obviously looking for popular licenses that can enhance if not replace their own similar themes (don’t worry, I doubt Castle/Kingdoms is going anywhere). Since the article went live on Variety at midnight the web has been abuzz with salivating fans. Here’s the skinny:

BILLUND, Denmark and Burbank, CA – December 16, 2011 – Warner Bros. Consumer Products and The LEGO Group announced today a partnership that awards the world’s leading construction toy brand exclusive rights to develop build-and-play construction sets based on THE LORD OF THE RINGS™ trilogy and the two films based on THE HOBBIT™. The multi-year licensing agreement grants access to the library of characters, settings, and stories for THE LORD OF THE RINGS property, as well as films The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again. LEGO® THE LORD OF THE RINGS construction sets are slated for a rolling global launch beginning in June 2012 in the United States, with LEGO THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY scheduled for later in the year.

“Only LEGO, with their expertise in the construction category, is capable of doing justice to the incredibly imaginative environments depicted in the world of THE LORD OF THE RINGS and the two films based on THE HOBBIT,” said Karen McTier, executive vice president, domestic licensing and worldwide marketing, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “These films give life to amazing worlds and characters and we are thrilled to bring fans these products that deliver an imaginative play experience befitting of these beloved properties.”

The LEGO THE LORD OF THE RINGS collection will translate into LEGO form the epic locations, scenes and characters of Middle-earth as depicted in all three films, including The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

In late 2012, LEGO THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY will give fans of all ages a chance to build and play out the fantastical story and new characters of the legendary Middle-earth adventures depicted in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey from Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson, slated to premiere December 14, 2012.

“Our collaboration with Warner Bros. Consumer Products has delivered numerous worldwide successes in the construction toy aisle with lines like LEGO HARRY POTTER and LEGO BATMAN, introducing us to loyal audiences who love great stories, strong characters and the toys that they inspire,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing and entertainment for The LEGO Group. “It’s particularly exciting to now be able to create sets based on the fantasy worlds and characters from THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy and the two films based on THE HOBBIT, not only because we know they will foster collectability and creative play, but also because these are two properties that our fans have been asking us to create for years.”

With mention of the popularity of current licensed themes and the future synergistic releases of the Marvel half of the LEGO Suoerheroes line and now LEGO Lord of the Rings due in June, I think LEGO is making a strategic strike to rule the toy aisle in 2012. While I doubt next year will mark the end of the world, It will certainly bring about the destruction of my wallet.

Star Wars Advent Calendar – Day 16

Day 16 - Clone Pilot
Day 16 – Clone Pilot

I’m starting to see a pattern forming here. Pilot Droid, Rebel Pilot, co-pilot of what is arguably one of the best known ships in the history of science fiction and now a Clone Pilot. There have been several clone pilots to choose from, so I’m not sure why this is the one they went with. Perhaps including it the day after the gunship was a way of apologizing for not including an actual pilot in the 7676 Republic Attack Gunship set. Either way it’s another fig I didn’t have and we could complain about the multitude of different troopers they could have included until the banthas come home, but I think the theme they were going for has become clear at this point.

Make it a Me-RRRRRRRRR-y Christmas

Amazon is offering 4195 Queen Anne’s Revenge for $98.97, down from $119.99. Need some Imperials for them to fight? 10210 Imperial Flagship would be a worthy opponent. It’s on sale for $149, down from $179.99. It should be noted that its status on LEGO Shop@Home’s website oscillates between “Sold Out” and “Call to check for product availability” signaling it’s end of life status. Amazon’s price is a great deal for one of their finest ship models ever made.

UCS 10215 Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter for $50

$50 bucks is about the right price for this. Still, I’d probably feel a little ripped off even at that price. But hey, I realize not everyone feels the same way about this set as I do. It’s a lightning deal and as I write this 50% are already claimed and only 22 minutes left, so act fast.

Thanks Nannan!

Cole Blaq’s LEGO Speeder Bike Contest Midway Point

CMF_TraluCMF_DangeJessir[speeder bike]

The 3rd Annual LEGO Speeder Bike Contest over on Flickr has reached the midway point, but there’s still plenty of time to get your entries into one of the three great categories. Cole Blaq himself has been busy building a quartet of new bikes which simultaneously help to promote the contest and allow him to flex his creative muscles.
