[UK] Free Lego via The Mirror newspaper (again) … starts 23rd October

Thanks to Jabba The Taff for the tip-off, here in the UK, we’ll soon be able to get a series of “free” Lego sets.  You need to buy the paper each day, for 10 days (or collect the tokens and send them off for a fee at the end of the deal).  From the photo posted, the sets looks to be :

30008 Creator Snowman

30009 Creator Christmas Tree

30021 Creator Parrot

7808 Creator Yellow Airplane

30042 Atlantis Mini Sub

30041 Atlantis Piranha

30010 City Fire Chief

30011 City Police Boat

30012 City Microlight

30013 City Police Buggy

The advert seems to say 10 toys … but I suspect the 10th might be a cardboard box to put the toys in!

The Daily Mirror costs 45p on weekdays, 65p on Saturday and the Sunday Mirror is £1.

Assuming the deal is like previous ones, then the toys will be available at WHSmiths and TRU stores.

*** Update 20th October 2010 ***

The 10th Toy is confirmed as 30008 Snowman.

The outlets for picking the toys up is confirmed as WHSmiths or TRU

Anthony Daniels Returns To Star Tours

StarWars.com reported yesterday that Anthony Daniels will reprise his role as C-3PO for the new Star Tours 2.0 ride at Disneyland and Disney World theme parks. Set between Episodes III and IV, you can get a sneak peek at the Starspeeder 1000 below.

Yours truly will also be involved with the Star Tours ride as the new pilot! Okay, not exactly but having the same name ought to give me a free press day pass or something no?

Here’s a video clip of what you can expect from the new ride:

Star Tours 2 is set to open sometime in 2011.

The Making of Empire: Author Interview and Book

The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Book Cover

A few days ago, LucasBooks released The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back by J.W. Rinzler with a forward by Ridley Scott. Normally, I’m not all THAT interested in the “making of” side of film making but this is Star Wars we’re talking about. And a film from the OT to boot! Also, that L.A. Times article with Gary Kurtz? It’s piqued my interest on what exactly went on behind the scenes during the filming of the greatest trilogy ever. StarWars.com did an article interviewing the author about the book. An excerpt:

It was always surprising that the bank just bailed. Bank of America just said, I’m sorry, we’re out of here. I mean, they’re two-thirds of the way through the movie and suddenly you have no financial backing with a million -dollar payroll to meet. I can’t even imagine what that kind of pressure would have been like.

See? Interesting, right? I think so. You can buy the hardcover from Amazon.com for $49.72 as of this writing. An autographed version also available through StarWarsShop.com for $84.99. If you’re like me and haven’t picked up Rinzler’s first book, The Making of Star Wars: The Definitive Story Behind the Original Film, it, too, is available from Amazon.

What Themes Do You Want Made?

LEGO community rep. Steve Witt put out the call yesterday for new theme ideas that you’d like to see in the future. This is a pretty informal fan survey, so go ahead and stop by this thread and drop your suggestion in the hat.

My thanks go out to The Brothers Brick for the tipoff.

K-mart’s Having a Sale Too

Not sure why it didn’t register in my head to post this but K-mart stores have put select LEGO sets on clearance and, if I’m reading it correctly, is offering an additional 50% off discount on top of the clearance prices. Time to go on a toy run methinks.

Precious Moments

Father & Son

Consider this dad’s heartstrings tugged. Flickr user Pedro Venzini snapped this shot of a father and son settings their weapons down and spending quality time together.

While I head off to play with my boys this would be a great time for you, dear Bothans, to check out more Star Wars Lego photography by Pedro!
