Cole Blaq’s Lego Speeder Bike Contest

Contest Announcement LSB 2011

You may or may not be aware of who Cole Blaq is (and if you aren’t where the heck have YOU been?). Besides being one of the more talented builders on my contacts list and 2010′s MOC Madness winner, he is also host to the annual LEGO Speeder Bike contest held on flickr. This year, there are three categories to enter, with each category’s top prize being a specially designed, one-of-a-kind speeder bike. This year, FBTB is throwing support behind the Vignette category to sweeten the first place prize: a copy of 8092 Luke’s Landspeeder, ’cause sometimes you wanna bring your friends with you. The deadline is 01.01.2012 24:00 MET time. Check out the flickr group post for the full set of rules.

Plan on entering? If so, I invite you to post your entry in our MOC Showcase forum.

10212 $219

Did you miss out on the Amazon Gold Box deal the other day for 10212 Imperial Shuttle? While not as great as the $198 price tag from the deal, Amazon currently has the set on sale for $219, down from $259.99. Act quickly for Amazon’s pricing behavior as of late is erratic to say the least.

Chibi Lives! DustyBricks’ Chibi Snowspeeder

Chibi Snowspeeder

It’s a shame that DustyBricks‘ Chibi Snowspeeder is too late for our Chibi Fighter contest. But if it hadn’t, it definitely would have given Angus’s Chibi AT-AT Walker a run for his money. Or at least lead to an epic Chibi battle on Chibi Hoth.

10219 Maersk Train For Less Than a Benjamin

Amazon has discounted 10219 Maersk Train down to $99.97, 17% off of MSRP of $119.99. Free shipping and no tax to most states makes this one a nearly no brainer.

New Ninjago Now at Shop@Home

Just in case you haven’t blown all your money yet and feel like paying full price for stuff, LEGO Shop@Home now has the new 2012 Ninjago line. They are also offering free shipping if your order is $99 or more. Unfortunately, they’re out of the Holiday Set #2. Still, it’s waaaaay better than the prices at TRU right now for the new stuff. They’ve marked up everything: $2 for 9440 Venomari Shrine, $5 for everything else except for 9444 Cole’s Tread Assault. That one? That one they’ve marked up $10. These markups are across the board for LEGO sets. Let the holiday price gouging begin!

Vote For The Next Architecture Set

Are you tired of tiny Architecture sets? Did you laugh out loud at 21008 Burj Khalifa set? Maybe you can change that. LEGO.com, on their Architecture microsite, is asking for your opinion on what you want to see as the next Architecture set. Unfortunately, there’s no way to express your opinion on what scale the model should be; we can only hope that 21010 Robie House is the first in a series of larger, more detailed, higher piece count sets. ‘Cause I’d hate to see how the Roman Colosseum would look at 100 pieces and a $20 dollar price point.

The Clone Wars: “Slaves Of The Republic”

CW Slaves of republic 1

This Friday continues  the new story arc that started with Kidnapped.

To locate the missing colonists, Anakin, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka go undercover to infiltrate the slavers on Zygerria. Anakin struggles with his emotions as a wily Zygerrian queen forces him to take questionable actions in order to carry out his mission.

Check out the preview video for Slaves Of The Republic.

Amazon Sells Character Encyclopedia for Half Off

Not much in the way of Cyber Monday LEGO deals worth mentioning. TRU has their week-long LEGO BOGO 50% sale (excludes Star Wars and Ninjago) and Shop@Home is still recovering from their Brick Friday sale (holiday gift set #2 no longer available; you still get 10% off $149 or more; free shipping on $49 or more; 25% off some stuff). But Amazon does have a nice sale price on the LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia. Its listed MSRP is $18.99. If I recall correctly, the lowest sale price to date was somewhere around $11 and some change. Right now, you can buy the book for $9.49, a discount of 50% off.

On another note, if you missed out on getting 10194 Emerald Night from Shop@Home during Brick Friday, Amazon still has it for $89.99, a 10% discount off of MSRP. Discount isn’t as nice as Shop@Home’s 25% but considering its status there is “Sold Out”, it’s a sure fire sign that it is discontinued and will no longer be produced.

After the long weekend break, we’ve finally got around to setting up the final polls for our MOC Madness Tournament. The Winners Bracket has the bounty hunters battling it out for 1st and 2nd place; the Losers Bracket for 3rd. There are only three days to vote. Good luck to all!
