LEGO Star Wars TV Special

LEGO Star Wars TV Special

LEGO Star Wars animated special? If this article at ComingSoon.net is true, then you’ll be able to see a LEGO Star Wars special hit the small screen this September, in addition to whatever the new animated series will be.

An exciting surprise at the Licensing International Expo 2011, LEGO Star Wars is set to receive a small-screen special this fall. ComingSoon.net spotted the below art for the television event and, while details were few, was told that the special is likely for late September.

Based on the popular video game series, the LEGO TV special is being created in addition to a second, previously announced Star Wars cartoon series. That new series has been given the following official update:

Today, George Lucas is hard at work on a second animated series that will complement ‘The Clone Wars’, taking ‘Star Wars’ in a completely new and fun direction

With the franchise celebrating its 35th anniversary next year, LEGO Star Wars should be a welcome addition to the ongoing animated series, the upcoming 3D re-release of The Phantom Menace and the first-ever release of both trilogies on Blu-ray this fall.

Announcing The Alphabet Fighter Contest

The Alphabet Fighter Contest

Rumor has it that the Incom Corporation entertained design ideas for letters A-W before settling on the X-wing. Okay, I totally made that up but it sounded like a good intro for our next contest: The Alphabet Fighter Contest. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to design a kick ass starfighter in the shape of any letter in the Latin alphabet. There are some epic prizes to win, something for first, second, and third place.

TRU BOGO 50% 4 Day Sale

TRU Sale

TRU online and in store is having a BOGO 50% off sale for the next 4 days, June 15 through June 18. Free shipping applies to orders $100 or more. Also, there’s an in-store offer of a free LEGO Creator 30022 MINI Lighthouse set with your LEGO purchase of $30 or more.

The ad, shown above, has an asterisk next to the text so some restrictions may apply, but it is not detailed on the online version of the ad. So far, the BOGO discount applies to LEGO Star Wars items as well. Just be aware of the TRU’s markup over MSRP as that will cut into any potential savings. Still, aside from the Death Star Set, the rest of the big guns are showing up as in stock such as 10215 Obi-wan’s Jedi Starfighter, 10198 Tantive IV, and 10212 Imperial Shuttle.

It’s a shame we’re no longer part of their affiliate program.

POTC Gold Elements Replacement Parts

Were you one of the unlucky few that got stuck with the non-chromed gold bars and coins from your Pirates of the Caribbean sets? Did you call up customer service to request replacement gold elements? Lately there have been a string of customers who got the wrong coins and no gold bars as their replacment parts. I’m happy to report some good news. You can call Shop@Home Customer Service (800-835-4386) and re-request the corrected parts. You should verify that you are getting prepack 4631481, and not element 70501.

Also, the POTC sets coming out of the factory will contain the new elements in the box.

10231 Shuttle Expedition, New and Improved

10213 MAIN

Did you miss out on acquiring a 10213 Shuttle Adventure set before it sold out? Well, fret none as it’s replacement, 10231 Shuttle Expedition, improves upon the original in many ways:

Since its release in 2010, 10213 Shuttle Adventure has proven to be very popular! Although the model was designed for a 16+ target audience, our consumer call center has brought to our intention that many younger children have been building and playing with the model. As a result, the Direct team has decided to look at the model once more to see what changes could be made in order to provide a better build and play experience for a slightly younger target audience.

10231 Shuttle Expedition may look similar to Shuttle Adventure in many ways, however its build is very different and offers several advantages.

- The fuel tank has been reinforced with supports to strengthen the assembly
- The landing gear is strengthened to function better across many different floor types
- The Cargo doors can now be more rigorously opened and closed
- The entire build has been reworked to limit opportunities for misplacing elements
- Astronauts now have wigs in addition to their helmets (1 male, 1 female). Face prints are also different.
- The new set now has 1,230 elements
- New Satellite can be securely positioned on the new mechanical arm

10231 Shuttle Expedition has already gone on sale in LEGOLAND Billund and will soon be available across all LEGO brand retail stores and on LEGO.com.

Kind regards

LEGO Direct Team

It’s not on Shop@Home‘s site yet, but should be available soon.

[US] Target BOGO 50% Off Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, and NinjaGo

Target Logo

Target stores currently have a buy one get one free offer for Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Ninjago sets. People over in the forums are reporting that this promotion varies by store, so you may end up with a buy two get one free or a BOGO 30% off in your area. The online deal is BOGO 50%.

Online prices for the most part match MSRP, so 30-50% off is a good way to snag the new Harry Potter summer sets at a discount. You could even buy two Knight Buses and get a bunch of sweet purple elements.

National Geographic Megafactories: LEGO

If you ever wondered what LEGO’s infrastructure was like, Youtube user HatStacks uploaded 5 videos of the show called Megafactories on National Geographic that featured The LEGO Group and their manufacturing and distribution process. I have yet to finish the first video as I write this but feel like it was worth sharing. Fascinating stuff. Part 1 is embedded above; parts 2, 3, 4 and 5 are available.

Big thanks to bigospedros for the heads up.

Brandon Griffith’s Jedi Chess Set

What's missing???

Brandon Griffith (icgetaway) made a splash at last year’s Star Wars Days with his Empire Strikes Back-themed chess set. His follow-up act of a Return of the Jedi-themed set will be unveiled to the world this weekend at LEGOLAND CA and will surely be a hit. Shrouded in secrecy, you can view some WIP pics in his photostream. I’ll be taking a plenty of pics of this and all the other mocs at Star Wars Days at LEGOLAND CA on June 18 and 19. Hope to see you there!

Voodoo Jack Sparrow Available From Amazon

Did you miss out on the special Voodoo Doll Jack Sparrow minifigure that was offered as a preorder bonus for the LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean video game? Well Amazon is offering the figure for $2.99, no video game purchase required. It seems that you can only order 1 figure at a time, and if you’re not a Prime member shipping starts at $4.98 for the figure alone. Unless, of course, you add $22.01 more in merch to bring your cart total over the magical threshold of $25.
