Palpatine's Shrink-O-Matic Ray Contest

That Battle of Hoth game. Oh man, when I saw the microfigs that you get with the game I got really excited. I mean look at them:

3866 Microfigs

Awesome! There is so much potential in building with a whole new scale. When I finally got my hands on the game what an utter disappointment those vehicles were. I mean look at this:

Snowspeeder

Not awesome! This thing is supposed to be a snowspeeder. And the microfigs are supposed to go where the two exposed studs are behind the trans-smoke cheese. They are basically glorified advent calendar models but far less accurate. I totally get that they’re supposed to be small and fit on the game “board” you build, but that doesn’t really satisfy my desire to see awesome ships built for microfigs. This is where you come in.

Imagine taking Emperor Palpatine’s much feared Shrink-O-Matic Ray, firing it at System scale LEGO Star Wars set and shrinking it down to fit a microfig in place of where a minifig would normally sit. That is your goal, to build that microfig scale vehicle, fighter, or capital ship. Now the term ‘scale’ is used rather loosely here. You can build an accurate model that would be on par with the Midi-scale Millenium Falcon, or go even smaller and more Chibi-like: it could be really small scale but with an enlarged cockpit. Just don’t take an existing set and throw your microfig in it and call it a day. People will know what you’re trying to do, point, laugh and ridicule you publicly and privately. Prizes? Well, the winner will get a copy of 3866 The Battle of Hoth board game for starters. It’s not available in the US due to a license Hasbro has that prevents LEGO from selling Star Wars board games in the US, but it is available to the rest of the world. So it could be a big deal to someone. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. More prize information as well as the complete set of rules are in the official contest thread. There will be five winners in all, so get building and good luck!
