You know, once the dawn of the digital download age began, everyone predicted physical media was going to die. And then once streaming services started up, a lot of people thought that would be the final nail in the coffin. Well, look at the mess we’re in now. All your favorite movies spread out amongst 15 different streaming services. And the movie you want to watch may not even be in rotation. Or it could jump from one service to another. You could just buy a digital version and skip the streaming service directly, but even then there aren’t any guarantees that it won’t be yanked out of your library or have some altered version uploaded in place of the original release. Look at Star Wars. The one you can stream from Disney+ right now is the Maclunkey edit.

All this to say that I doubt physical media is really going anywhere. Sales might be declining I don’t know, but people still like looking at bookshelves of entertainment. If you’re a physical media kind of person and a Star Wars fan, then this exclusive offer from Best Buy might be up your alley. They are offering new SteelBook editions of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. They are all priced at $29.99 but are seeing a modest $2 discount right now and can be had for $27.99 each. Each 4k UHD Blu-ray SteelBook is in metallic silver and features a different Star Wars character on the front. The design is part of the Disney 100th anniversary collection. Other Disney 100th anniversary SteelBooks feature the same design motif so all of them will match nicely should you splurge on other movies.

There’s no digital copy included unfortunately. No word yet if the version you get is the Maclunkey edit or some entirely new cut.
