The crew of the highly anticipated Disney+ Obi-Wan show has been sent home without notice Collider reports.

Two independent sources with knowledge of the situation tell Collider that the Obi-Wan series has been put on hold, as the crew that had assembled at Pinewood Studios in London was sent home. A timeframe was not given, but the crew was told that the show would be down “indefinitely.”

According to the report, Kathleen Kennedy wants the script reworked so it can be the best that it can be.

One reason for the rewrites The Hollywood Reporter put out there is because the story follows Obi-Wan eight years after the events of Revenge of the Sith with Obi-Wan looking for a very young Luke. The theory is that this story is too similar to The Mandalorian and that a new direction for the show needed to be established.

A time frame was not given but this ETOnline article has Ewan McGregor himself stating that production won’t start until “next year”, the “scripts are really, really good”, and that “they want to make them better”.

As far as I can tell, neither Disney+ nor Lucasfilm has confirmed any of this, but given the multiple articles and varied sources, including Ewan’s own statements, it’s a safe bet to say that the Obi-Wan show has been delayed until sometime next year. With rumors of a standalone Obi-Wan movie having circulated years ago, only for a Disney+ show to be confirmed, fans will have to wait a bit longer to watch it.

Not a great start for the show.

Script rewrites seem to be pretty common for Star Wars movies. A friend that works in the industry told me once before that it’s pretty common. But when it comes to Star Wars there seems to be a negative connotation to it happening. Could be because Star Wars fans are a fickle bunch. Or maybe perhaps because other than Rogue One, the rewrites have resulted in nothing but just terrible films. I’m talking about Solo and Rise of Skywalker. Not sure if The Last Jedi had rewrites but I hope it did because that would be a better reason for its terribleness other than someone just coming up with that steaming pile on their first pass.
