I received this press release in an email this morning detailing Warner Bros. licensing agreements for toys and merch surrounding Nolan’s final Batman film. And seeing as to how the movie is opening up this weekend, I’m a little puzzled as to why it’s being sent out today and not like a few months ago. But that’s not why I’m posting this. I’m posting it because it mentions that LEGO is releasing a set to support the movie. The exact quote is:
The much-anticipated film is also being supported by the official partner in the construction category, LEGO, with a construction set inspired by The Dark Knight Rises;
Now you’d have to be blind to not see the similarities in the Bane and Commissioner Gordon minifigs unveiled last Friday to their on-screen counterparts. Those minifigs, I was told, were part of the 2013 line up. But other than this press release, there’s been no indication that an official The Dark Knight Rises set was in the works.
What could all of this mean? A new Tumbler set perhaps? Or, dare I say it, The Bat? Both? Who knows, but the possibilities of some new LEGO Batman vehicles that don’t suck is enough to make me giddy.
