It's no secret that I LOVE the LEGO Pods. If they decided to make all 18 of them, I wouldn't complain. LEGO seems to lend itself perfectly to these, with the colors and design. Aldar's pod is stunning, rivaling Sebulba's in size. Aldar himself is a piece, and it works; the character simply would not work as a minifig. I wish they would have applied the same thought to Gasgano in ME Podrace.
The pod (or at least most of it) for Mawhonic is here as well, but the Gran is not. And if you look at the comic in the instruction manual, you might come up with the same thought that I did. This set takes place *after* the race. Aldar comes to Watto looking for parts, and the Toydarian has obviously bought the pieces of Mawhonics pod (most likely from Jawas). In order to completely build the pod you'll have to take apart the 'corral' and stand for Watto that are also in this set. But you won't complain, these little add-ons to the set are a complete and total waste.
Then there is the Watto minifig itself. The title of this set is confusing, but I'm going to guess that LEGO had Watto on the list of characters they wanted to get made. Then they came up with the concept outlined in the comic. I like the minifig, I like how they used the chest/head/back piece like they did with Chewbacca. My biggest complaint would be the little 1x2 clear brick that they give him to stand on as if he was aloft; I wish they had devised something a little more like what they did with the STAPs.
So there you have it - three great sets. I'll get around to reviewing the other three soon, including the much talked about Imperial AT-ST. Look for the FBTB Set Guide to be updated with pics soon as well. But this is a great way to start 2001!
