10234 Sydney Opera House

Unveiled moments ago at Brickworld in Chicago, LEGO has pulled the curtain back from their latest [email protected] exclusive, 10234 Sydney Opera House. What's interesting to me is that this set is being released as part of the Creator line and not the Architecture line for which there is already a small scale model of the same building. This set weighs in at 2,989 pieces and will set you back $319.99 US / $379.99 CA. 10234 Sydney Opera House is scheduled for release later this year in September, at the same time as 10236 Ewok Village. More images below, followed by the designer video, and then the official press release.

Ewok village and now Sydney Opera House in September, UGH! Patience, patience just because they release together doesn't mean I must own them both immediately. That's it keep lying to your self DarthBuilder, keep lying.

Those who have seen the real thing will know it really does capture the stark contrast of the beauty of the sails and the unrelenting ugliness of the lower sections! :)

No doubt Utzon will complain about the lack of an interior.

I really dig the actual opera house design, but I'm not all that impressed with this. Sure it's big and quite the tan parts pack, but those sails completely fail to recreate the smooth look of the real thing. For reference:
I know it's super hard to get such a large smooth curved surface, but that doesn't give this $320 set a pass since it's such a key part of the building. That being said, even if it did look perfect I still wouldn't buy the set so what does my opinion matter.

Extremely pricey for a creator set with no minifigs and by default (creator set) tons of small common bricks. Nothing really special about it is eye opening but maybe if you have been there in real life you will enjoy this.
Don't you waste away, for tomorrow will soon be today
