some of you may be wondering why some podracers made it through even though their image was broken in the thread. allow me to explain.
in my zeal to set up an iron clad contest that would minimize the opportunities people would have to change/alter/rebuild their entry, i made posts on this particular board uneditable. which is both good and bad. i didn't realize how many people would have so much trouble posting images.
also, replacing images on flickr would prevent someone from changing their entry since they have this neat built in function where the image address would change if it was replaced. it was never explicitly stated in the rules that that sort of thing was not allowed, just implied. so we went over the entries where the image was replaced for whatever reason, and accepted the ones that still followed the submission guidelines (orientation of podracer, clean or gradient backgrounds, etc).
i realize this contest was a headache to submit pictures. trust me when i say the admins do not want to repeat all the drama that this contest seems to have brought up.
going forward we are changing one fundamental rule of entering contests to the following:
- when the deadline of a contest is reached, the thread will be locked. that will prevent anyone from editing their post. any entries submitted prior to the lockdown is considered your entry.
what this means is that any picture you post you can change, remove, alter, edit, or whatever up until the deadline. if you have problems posting a pic, this should give you enough time to correct it. if your picture violates one of the rules (such as adding backgrounds, labels, text data, logos, etc), you should have enough time to correct it.
in other words, under the old rules once you submit your pic, you're locked in. the new rules, no one is locked in until the deadline passes.
so, all that being said, i want to thank everyone for the patience and tolerance for my crazy rules. we'll try harder to make things run much more smoothly from here on out.
