Wow, toastkateer! Someone had a lot of building time! I'm jealous. That A-wing you created is all kinds of awesome IMO. I like how it's kind of a cross between an A-wing and a Jedi Strike Fighter. Always liked the dark red. XD

My favourite was the TIE but I see how you entered with the Y-Wing, it's the most "evolved" concept that moves away from the original outline.

Here is my evolved First Order Interceptor.

As tempted as I was just to build a stripped down slave-1 sitting on Tatooine up on blocks with jawas making off with the rims, once i had that windscreen built, I had to go the tie route. Aside from the obvious repaint, I mostly tried to keep true to the iconic interceptor design, but I bulked up and elongated the pod as well as tightening up the wings a bit.

Really like that windscreen design, madLEGOman. Closed cockpits are for wussies.

Outstanding entries posted so far! Love the idea for the contest, so here's my entry...

Resistance Blade Wing.

This heavy-duty fighter gave power to the Rebellion in the past. The Resistance recognized it's usefulness and gave it a few upgrades to help in it's fight against the First Order. See link for labelled upgrades: https://www.flickr.com/photos/sasklegousers/23903010029/

Besides a new paint job, the improved B-Wing boasts bi-fold wings for a shorter profile, and a secondary gunner position with a 360 firing radius. Upgraded hyperdrive, cannons and an additional astromech droid round out this fighter.

Good luck to everyone in the contest! Thanks FBTB for the inspiration!

Edit: Thanks for the second chance Don!

Erm...Pod Racering hasn't evolved very much. I think this is my first Star Wars Build.

Through the years, the A-Wing became a smaller and more disposable ship used by the Resistance for short range attacks on enemy ships. The engines were centered and became more compact, resting behind the cockpit module. The middle of the ship was hollowed out and most of the main structure and function of the ship were stored in the simple and streamlined A-shaped wing, giving the ship a more striking silhouette of its namesake.

Introducing the Y-wing evo (the name is very original, I know)

I do have a question about the "no composite shot" photo rule. Since this thing was built around being able to transform I would hope to be able to show both of its forms off in the poll thread but that seems to be out of the question. Is there any wiggleroom for that particular rule or will I just have to choose one of the two forms for my main pic?

That y-wing is beautiful. If you only get one shot at the main mage I'd suggest the walker mode, it really makes it stand apart (no pun intended).

I think that ywing looks best in flight mode.. that alone would be a winning shot imho. Its my fave entry so far!! I like it even more than my own entry!

Wow, I agree with jp-30. That's a sweet design. I'm almost hesitant to post my evolved fighter after seeing that. Any chance you can post more detailed build photos after the contest? Curious how everything goes together.

Very stiff competition as always! And multiple Y-wings to boot!

Here's my evolved Y-wing fighter design - nicknamed "The Warhammer"

Tired of always playing "second best" to the X-wings, Y-wing pilots asked Koensayr engineers to revisit their design. They added new technologies, heads-up display, targeting scope, larger more efficient engines, and significant additional weaponry. No longer just a "bomber", the upgraded design is faster, more maneuverable, and packs more "punch" than the original design and current gen X-wings. Wanting to pay "homage" to the original, the pilots purposely added some color gradients and kept some engine elements exposed. There are 4 projectile launchers - two under the cockpit and one beneath each wing. The Y-wing is also equipped with two cockpit lasers, two twin rotating engine mounted laser cannons, and two large caliber rear-mounted ion cannons. Affectionately nicknamed "The Warhammer" - this evolved ship has the Resistance taking another look at their choice of primary fighter.

Thanks to FBTB for hosting the contest. I really enjoyed the design and build process. After finishing, I keep hearing the themes from "Last Starfighter" and "Galaxy Quest" and wanting to swoosh my ship around! :D

While Koensayr Manufacturing continued making new models of the Y-Wing, the Resistance got a hold of a few of the old ones and made their own modifications.

ImageY-Wing in flight by grant_bird_at, on Flickr

As you can see, the ship's head was modified to rotate independently of the body.

ImageY-Wing body by grant_bird_at, on Flickr

Since the neck was replaced with the rotating mechanism, the astromechs are put in the body. The Y-Wings are notorious for needing constant maintenance, so this particular one was fixed to fit two astromechs. One could make repairs during flight.

Here's the ship in a docking bay. The "wings" were modified to slide in to take up less space while landed.

It was a fun build. The contest in general is a very clever idea, and there have been some amazing entries so far. Good luck!

I get this Abramsverse vibe from those nacelles: so beefy, so swoopy, so smooth -- beautiful and perfect for a TFA-era ship!

And the Y-Wings keep rolling! Hopefully I'll be able to add my own rendition to the glut of Y-Wings before the deadline.

Well, the X-Wing is off limits and the Y-Wing is the most popular Rebel fighter after that one...

Hi everybody, i'm in with a evolved B-wing!
Feel the power of the dark-blue!!!!!! >8(
TRULY AMAZING BACKSTORY:
"Rebels loved gray and red colors. Rebels didn't like back guard-cannons for their starfighters.
After 30 years of research, Resistance found out that some other colors exist (for real?? Amazing!!!), and sometimes you can build a starfighter with a blaster that can guard your back. They had a beer, and then drawn the new B-wing"

A lot of great entries so far, I'm happy there are so many Y-wings because it's my favorite starfighter.

Meanwhile, two of you didn't fully remember the rules for your posts so I'll reiterate this point for everyone -
just like in nearly every other contest we've run here, I wrote: Color and contrast correction is recommended if necessary. The only other image enhancement allowed is replacing the background with either a solid color or simple gradient. Your photos cannot be altered in any other way. For example; no composite views, special effects, text, graphics, or scenery will be permitted.
You both still have enough time to swap out your entry pics, but had you waited until the last minute you'd be out of luck. Please, everyone else, do your best to get your ships submitted with at least a little time to spare in case you've missed something like that too!

spacie, on the other hand, is on point with taking the cautious route and asking for a clarification rather than posting and hoping for the best. Unfortunately, yes, the no composite rule still applies. You'll have to decide which shot you want to be used for the poll and put that one first in your submission post.

Hi Guys! After seeing so many great Y-wings I decided to show you a land vehicle :) The HAVx A7 Juggernaut!!

"After the success of the A6 Juggernauts achieved at various battlefronts in the Outer Rim, the Galactic Republic began developing a newer and more advanced type of Juggernaut, the eXperimental A7 variants. The new Juggernaut was faster, stronger and the fire power of one tank rivals that of several AT-ATs. Unfortunately, due to its astounding cost, the A7 never made beyond the prototyping period and was gradually forgotten. However, decades after the destruction of the Galactic Empire, a faction, known as the First Order, got their hands on the blue prints of the A7 and attempted to bring these monsters back into the battlefield...for their own galactic domination...... "

A video I filmed showing its motorization!

Features:

    Fully remote controlled
    Driving & steering
    Motorized power winch
    6 LED lights
