Review: 76006 Iron Man Extremis Sea Port Battle

1. Overview

This is a hard one to write an opening to. I could talk about how Iron Man 3 is now one of the highest grossing films of all time, taking in well over a billion smackeroos. I could prattle on about my view of the film and how I feel that jives with box office totals, or predict how Tony’s journey through the film could have lasting consequences for the future of the MCU. I’m not going to do any of that, because I’d prefer to not think too hard about the movie at all. It’ll be better for me that way. Instead, a novel idea…
Let’s take a look at the set!

Build Tony Stark’s Hall of Armor

Wondering what to do with all those Iron Man minifigures? Well, the LEGO Club’s got you covered with this downloadable set of instructions to build “Iron Man’s Laboratory” which, in my opinion, should be called, Tony Stark’s Laboratory or Hall of Armor, but I get it. I understand if you don’t label everything as Iron Man it loses its appeal. And the name Tony Stark isn’t as marketable as Iron Man.

Seems like a fun and easy build. Smashing Bricks says that you’ll need the sticker set from 76007 Malibu Mansion Attack.

Thanks to ninnymuggins for the heads up.

Hall Of Armour, Complete With Two Turntables And A Microphone

Iron Man - Hall of Armour

With all the Iron Man suits floating around now, I’ve been calling for MOCs of Tony Stark’s Hall of Armour and have found the first one to tickle my fancy. Jared Chan has put together a nice rendition of the hall as seen in the upcoming film and has taken pictures of it as presented in many promotional shots. Tony may be a rich, egotistical engineering genius, but he’s still a guy and what self respecting man cave comes without tunes?

Two Turntables & A Microphone

Seriously, I don’t know. I’m more of a rumpus room kind of guy.
Though I do love the term LEGOratory

Review: 76008 Iron Man Vs. The Mandarin Ultimate Showdown

1. Overview

Ultimate Showdown. The name inspires visions of an epic battle between the Armoured Avenger and his megalomaniacal archenemy that would tax the limits of the two foes abilities and resources, ending in chaos, destruction and a spectacular defeat for one side or the other.

Alternately: This.

Men Of Iron

Just a quick shot I took of all the official suits while working on my Iron Man 3 reviews, which should be along in the next day or so. I’ve been itching to see them all together since the IM3 sets were announced. I’m just wondering if I should do one of my reviews as a synopsis of the film based ONLY on the trailer and these three sets. Could be interesting. Crazy, but interesting.

Now to start building my Hall of Armour.

Legohaulic’s “Brute” Strength

Iron Man 3 Hulkbuster Armor

LEGO isn’t waiting until the highly anticipated Iron Man 3 hits theaters on May 3rd to release it’s sets based on the property and the fans aren’t waiting to build either. Legohaulic built this version of what many are calling the “Hulkbuster” armour as a commission and the overall shape of the body is great. Seeing it in the trailer bust through the shipping containers in a full tilt dash reminded me much more of Marvel’s unstoppable Juggernaut. The only info attached to the original concept art where it appeared in the standard red and gold described it as “Brute” armour and that certainly fits. Its chunky design, hunched back and forearm hazard stripes (not included on the model, but that would have been impressive to pull off in purist form) indicate this guy was built less for busting monsters and more for Tony’s heavy lifting. I expect to see a great many suits pop up when the movie comes out and everyone has had a good look, but the early bird gets the worm.

With suits of armour in the trailer resembling the Stealth, Deep Space, Silver Centurion and other classic looks, which would you most like to see in LEGO form? Brick-built or minifig? I’m still down for Iron Patriot, but I’d take a Silver Centurion any way you build it as well…

Proof That Tony Stark Has A Heart…

Lego Arc ReactorLego Light Bulb v2.0

…And it’s made of LEGO.

Don’t you just hate it when you’ve got an uncompleted build sitting on the shelf and someone comes along and finishes it before you can? No, me either and quite frankly I enjoy seeing other people arrive at the finish line with a similar yet different conclusion. Mr.Attacki built this snazzy Arc Reactor and even lighted the thing for effect with great results. I’ll probably still finish my version when the depths of winter drive me into hibernation and I’ve little to keep me sane in the endless darkness beyond those colourful little distractions. Now someone needs to build a wearable version.

Miniature LEGO Iron Man Helmet

Lego Ironman Helmet

I’ve been on a bit of a Super Hero kick lately, with the Avengers due soon on DVD, all the rumours flying surrounding upcoming super films and everything else going on. When ninnymuggins shared this in the chatroom earlier today, I just couldn’t resist posting it. Mr.Attacki has done a nice job with this half-pint hero helmet that includes a flip up face mask and on top of that he’s even made some colour variants.

Thanks ninny!
