That’s a whole lot of comic for just 10 cents! This monolithic magazine mosaic was created for the Denver Comic Con by four committed (or at least they should be, Hiyo!) members of CoWLUG. At 10 feet tall and over 200 pounds it took four people and a forklift to set up the wall of nearly 60 thousand bricks to greet its adoring public. Congratulations to Mark, Mia, Joel & Duane! Well played folks. Just 900 more issues to go!

LEGO Shop@Home has a promotion for most of the month of June where you can get a Jor El promotional minifigure. Now I don’t know if in the movie Jor El’s outfit is actually darker than Superman, but he came out much darker than the promo image and even the package art. See pic below. Anyways, from now until June 25th, just head on over to LEGO Shop@Home or a LEGO Brand Retail location and make a purchase of at least $75. Tiny Russell Crowe will automatically be added to your cart for free! Not only that but you’ll also score free shipping! That’s right, all orders of $75 or more will receive free standard shipping.
And speaking of free shipping, LEGO Shop@Home will now offer free shipping on all orders of $75 or more FOREVER! No expiration date and no code required.
Some details have emerged about obtaining the Jor-El minifig we reported on earlier this week. This post on Eurobricks shows the June store calendar with Jor-El displayed as one of the highlighted items. It will be a LEGO Brand Retail promotion and the only way to get it is to make a purchase in store or at LEGO Shop@Home for $75 or more. There’s nothing listed about the purchase requiring Super Heroes sets, so any purchase should net you the minifigure. Offer is good from June 1-25 or while supplies last.
There is one other item of interest on the calendar. On Wednesday June 19, they will be hosting a special in-store building event where you can build the Man of Steel. This is in addition to their regular Monthly Mini Build. Build event is open to kids age 6-14 only and limited to approximately 150 per store.
And finally, on Friday June 22, the monthly LEGO Club meeting will be DC Super Heroes themed.
It sort of came out of no where, but a Man of Steel promotional polybag isn’t really shocking. It’s yet another figure to pop up on eBay ahead of release and I think it’s a bit pricey for a figure that includes the same El family underwear that comes in every Man of Steel set. Works out to about 50 bucks for a new bearded head print. At least it’s a nice beard.
We’ll keep you posted on when and how this one will be released.
The newest (and hopefully last) trailer for Zach Snyder’s next attempt to impress/enrage comic book fans comes with the major players in Clark Kent’s life laying out his possible destiny as a symbol of hope for mankind. A lot of changes to the mythos on this one, but if Snyder can deliver even half of the experience the original film gave its audience back in ’78, it should be worth the price of admission.
That’s how Zod described Superman’s Fortress of Solitude in the second movie and it’s quite true if a bit cold. ZeeMasterBrick has built this stark and stunning monument and even gone so far as to have a custom Jor-El made to accompany his own minifigs in capturing some movie moments. It’s such an eye-catching version of the last house of El, that I had to post it right away instead of banishing it to my queue of builds “to blog”. I’m so behind…
It’s time for Toy Fair! The LEGO Collector Event at the International Toy Fair is happening this Sunday from 7am to 9am EST. We’ll be starting our coverage a little bit after that. The badges that you see above, feature the Movie Starlet minifig from the Collectible Minifig Series 9, most likely hinting at all of the licensed properties that are sure to dominate the show floor. The Lone Ranger, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Superman, Iron Man, and who knows what else. Oh, and of course, Star Wars. With more active licenses under LEGO’s belt than before, this year’s show is sure to be packed full of goodies. We’ll do our best to bring you the most complete coverage as possible so come back on Sunday to check it out.
Remember back in October when the news broke of a LEGO Batman movie based on the video game DC Super Heroes Unite? Well we’ve finally heard news on it’s release and that comes with the not too shocking reveal of an exclusive minifig packaged with the movie. I find it more curious that after the Empire Strikes Out was announced the other day to be released in what appears to be DVD only format, here we are again with the DVD/BluRay combo pack. The pack comes with a Clark Kent/Superman figure I know many, including myself, have been hoping to see. It’s available for pre-order on Amazon with a release date of May 21st.
Update: there will be other prizes, the below list is just the bigger ticket items.
I just received word that there will be additional prizes to be awarded to the lucky few that win an exclusive minifig today. If you win a minifig, look at the back of it. If you find a sticker, you will win one of the following bonus prizes:
- 18″ LEGO Built Hulk and Batman Model – These are awesome! Like a mini version of the Hulk in our booth!!
- Signed Comic Books
