There’s less than a week left to enter our CubeDude Vigs contest! Your 16×16 vignette with 2-4 characters from any licensed Lego theme needs to be posted by midnight Pacific this coming Sunday evening! Hurry or you’ll miss your chance to win these awesome prizes:
We are not very good at highlighting other fansite or their promotions. I hope this is a step in the right direction:
Lowlug.nl, a Dutch AFOL fansite, is hosting a large Star Wars contest with a variety of categories like Land Vehicles, Air Vehicles, Mini MOCs (sized 16×16 or smaller) and even a category for showing off your collection!
Check out all the details here. You’ve got till December 1st to enter!
PS: I hear they got some awesome judges for the contest
Consider this dad’s heartstrings tugged. Flickr user Pedro Venzini snapped this shot of a father and son settings their weapons down and spending quality time together.
While I head off to play with my boys this would be a great time for you, dear Bothans, to check out more Star Wars Lego photography by Pedro!
Lucas wants more of your money. Lucasfilm announced yesterday that Star Wars will be getting the 3D treatment and is scheduled for release in 2012 starting with Episode I: The Phantom Menace. While I’m not particularly keen on seeing movies in 3D, I think the action sequences would actually lend itself quite well to the format. Like the idea? Hate it? Sound off in the discussion already brewing.
If you want my opinion, and if we’re talking about exclusives, this set is *way* cooler than the overpriced-and-sure-to-be-a-boon-to-rare-minifig-sellers-but-still-a-neat-playset that is the Home One. I’m a sucker for hovertanks and gritty cobbled-together pirate scrap heaps, and this one looks like a winner. Not only do you get the wicked model, you get the minifigs seen below:
Ignore Obi-Wan for a minute. Look at those pirates. Those guys are AWESOME. This set can’t get here soon enough. The last Special Edition Target set I bought was that other rad hovertank: what did Target do to score the best exclusives?
Gareth Bowler, longtime SW mocmaker extraordinaire, has been posting some new/newish/old models to Brickshelf. Here’s a couple of his latest, a UCS Speederbike, and an updated A-Wing!
Click here for the full gallery!
Of the two, my favorite is the speederbike, which has some really great details I like, such as tires for the handle grips, and some fantastic greebling where the steering vanes connect to the main body.

We’ve gotten emails and forum posts from people asking where Gareth’s spotlight page from the old site is. It’s archived, but we’re still trying to cement our plans for handling spotlights here on the new site. Although we may not end up featuring individual builders with their own pages like we used to, we still intend to highlight the best and most amazing Star Wars-related creations we find.
