Star Tours at Disneyland, CA Dated

The official Disneyland blog posted an article yesterday outlining opening dates for some new attractions. Star Tours has now been given an opening date of June 3rd for Disneyland. The attraction at Disneyworld in Florida opens May 20th. Excited? I know I am.

HJR-Holland’s Starspeeder 3000

Will I ever tire of this ship? Probably not. And it’s good to see I’m not the only one. Now that the ride is retired, I’m always tickled pink to see nicely done MOCs of the ship and HJR-Holland delivers. He’s even built a docking bay to go with it.

Anthony Daniels Returns To Star Tours reported yesterday that Anthony Daniels will reprise his role as C-3PO for the new Star Tours 2.0 ride at Disneyland and Disney World theme parks. Set between Episodes III and IV, you can get a sneak peek at the Starspeeder 1000 below.

Yours truly will also be involved with the Star Tours ride as the new pilot! Okay, not exactly but having the same name ought to give me a free press day pass or something no?

Here’s a video clip of what you can expect from the new ride:

Star Tours 2 is set to open sometime in 2011.

Jordan Schwartz’s StarSpeeder 3000

StarSpeeder 3000

In paying homage to the closing of the original Star Tours ride, Jordan Schwartz (Sir Nadroj) built this mightily impressive StarSpeeder 3000. LEGO missed a great opportunity in making an official set out of this now that the ride has closed. Here’s hoping the next ride will yield something.

End of an Era: Star Tours Closing July 27

It’s the end of an era: the Star Tours ride is going to be closing its doors for good on July 27th at Disneyland and September 8th for Disney World. I remember going on Star Tours a long time ago when I first moved here to L.A. It was AWESOME. And every time after that whenever I went to Disneyland, I made sure it was the first ride we went on. The ride is being replaced with a Podracing ride which is just not epic enough in my opinion. I’m going to try and go one last time. Too bad LEGO didn’t make a Starspeeder 3000 set. Wouldn’t that have been awesome?

Anyways, if you’ve never been on it, you can enjoy it through the magic of Youtube. There’s a bunch of videos of the ride on there, one is embedded below.
