[SDCC] LEGO Comic Con Exclusive TV Series Batmobile Set Revealed

Batmobile Exclusive

These images of the final Comic Con exclusive set landed in my inbox a few minutes ago. The Batmobile set is in the same Chibi style as the other two sets. Assuming the photos represent final product shots, the set includes both a Batman and Robin that are identical to the ones you get from the Batman Juniors set Defending the Batcave. It’s a bit disappointing as this would have been a great opportunity to make more show-accurate versions.

LEGO DC SDCC Exclusive Package

The packaging looks very similar to the packaging from last year’s exclusives using cardboard boxes. There are 1,000 made of each of the Comic Con exclusive sets. The LEGO booth will be selling 250 of each set every day of the convetion starting Thursday for $39.99.

I know what I’m getting.

[SDCC] LEGO Systems Unveils New Products, Experiences and Exclusives at San Diego Comic-Con

The-Collector

LEGO put out the following press release detailing just about everything that’s going on with their booth, exclusives, and announcements for this year’s San Diego Comic Con. A couple of things that stand out:

  • You will be able to build and take home whatever model creations you make. They’ve always had a free build area but I think this is the first year they are allowing people to take their models home with them.
  • There will be a gallery of every LEGO Star Wars minifigure ever made. Now THIS I’ve got to see.
  • There will be a life-sized model of the Batcycle from the classic TV series complete with sidecar made entirely out of LEGO.
  • A LEGO Hobbit set based on the third and final movie will be unveiled. Also, Bard the Bowman will be given away on Thursday.
  • Unikitty will be given away on Sunday.
  • If you can’t attend this year’s Comic Con and still want a chance to win some of the minifigures, follow @LEGO_Group for a chance to win via Twitter.

Some things we still don’t know are what the classic TV series Batmobile exclusive set looks like, the identity of the DC Comics minifigure, and which day you can win the Marvel and DC minifigures. We do know that those two figures will be Friday and Saturday though. Full press release below:

[SDCC] Enter The Shredder As The Next LEGO Sculpture To Appear At Comic-Con

shredder0014-2jpg-0d1c5f_960wshredder0008-2jpg-8dd341_960w

IGN revealed another life sized LEGO sculpture that will be at SDCC this weekend, a 7 foot tall statue of the Shredder. Weighing in at 174 pounds and 35,322 bricks, it took the master builders 269 hours to bring Oroku Saki to life in all his vile glory. Probably too big and heavy to try and sneak him home.

I cannot look at this statue and not hear the voice of James “Uncle Phil” Avery. No disrespect to Kevin Michael Richardson, but this is the second cartoon character he’s voiced that I can’t help but still associate with the previous voice actor.

[SDCC] BrickJournal Panel and LEGO Batman Comic Info

PinupColor2Small

Yes, more and more LEGO fun to check out at SDCC keeps popping up. Joe Meno will be hosting a panel for BrickJournal Magazine on July 26th fro 5 to 6pm. If you’re a fan of the publication, you’ll want to take the opportunity to check out what’s going on behind the scenes and pick Joe’s brain if you’re down with the Q’s and the A’s. I’ve only me Joe once at the 2013 Toy Fair in New York, but there was work to be done and many, many people to meet, so there was no picking of brains that day.

Also on the 26th at the LEGO booth there will be an exclusive LEGO Batman comic giveaway and signing. Artist Paul Lee and writer Rachel Lareau will be on hand to autograph this limited comic (pictured above) containing new original art and Club LEGO comics collected together for the first time. Only hitch… it’ll be between 5 & 6pm, so choose wisely.

[SDCC] LEGO To Show Off Batman’s Tumbler at Comic Con

1405869303000-76023-Tumbler-DC

A few hours ago, USA Today revealed LEGO’s newest Ultimate Collector’s Set, The Tumbler from The Dark Knight. The Tumbler, based on Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, will be on display at the San Diego Comic Con this week starting Wednesday July 23rd. The LEGO Tumbler has 1,869 pieces, will retail for $199 and will be available starting in September. The Brand Retail store calendar for August shows an early bird access on August 18th which I can only assume is for this set. Included in the set are two minifigs: Christian Bale’s Batman and Heath Ledger’s Joker, pictured below.

[SDCC] Pop! Art of the Geek Exhibit to Feature Works by LEGO Artists Brandon Griffith and Nathan Sawaya

The names of Brandon Griffith and Nathan Sawaya should not be unfamiliar to our readers. They’ve been featured before for their work and next week during the San Diego Comic Con, they will be participating in an art show called Pop! Art of the Geek. The show is curated by Nathan Sawaya and “highlights the artwork of a dozen established and emerging artists who have re-imagined the icons of pop culture in ways never before seen”.

Brandon will be featuring the above pictured piece, titled “It’s All A Joke,” a construct of the comedian’s badge from the popular Watchmen comic.

Nathan Sawaya will be displaying his iconic Han Solo in Carbonite LEGO sculpture.

If you’ve never seen either piece in person, it’s worth your time to stop by the gallery see them for yourself. The pictures really don’t do them justice. The exhibit will be on display at the Michael J. Wolf Fine Arts Gallery located at 363 Fifth Ave in the heart of the Gaslamp District across the street from Dick’s Last Resort. Gallery hours are from Wednesday July 23rd to Sunday July 27th from 11am to 7pm. If you are going to the show, it is extremely easy to find as it is on the second block you walk up when you head into the Gaslamp for lunch or dinner. All of the art is for sale and benefits the Art Revolution Foundation that works to put art supplies in schools. For more infomation check out the Art of the Geek website.

[SDCC] Another LEGO Comic Con Exclusive Minifig Revealed: The Hobbit’s Bard the Bowman

The LEGO Group continues to spread its San Diego Comic Con exclusive news around as this time it’s The Hollywood Reporter getting the scoop on the next Comic Con reveal. Bard the Bowman from The Hobbit franchise is the second of four exclusive minifigs to be given away. As for the other two, the article has this tidbit:

Among the other minifigs at the Con will be the Collector, a character from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, a DC fig and one from The Lego Movie.

We’ve already known about The Collector. The DC fig is most likely a way to promote the upcoming LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham game. Either that or it’ll be a TV series Batman figure to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the character. The LEGO Movie figure is a surprise though and it could actually mean the wrist action Unikitty revealed yesterday is the exclusive. We’ll see if any more news is revealed.

Also of note in the article is the following:

This year, to avoid chaos, the company has a system wherein an attendee’s badge is scanned to determine a “winner” in a lottery-style giveaway.

What a relief.

The Warner Bros. booth will also feature the gigantic Smaug statue pictured above. The statue was designed and built by Erik Varszegi, weighs over 411 lbs and features 83,433 pieces.

[SDCC] More LEGO Comic Con Exclusives Revealed: Ghost Ship, Unikitty? And an Upcoming Movie Set Revealed

Eagle-eyed contributor Tohst spotted this Yahoo! Movies article revealing a few more goodies in store for us attending San Diego Comic Con.

First up is a Unikitty whose face changes from “Cuteskitty” to “Cheerkitty” with a flick of a wrist. I’m guessing this Unikitty is bigger than the brick built one you get in a set, maybe about the same size as the awesome keychain light. That being said, I don’t believe that it is one of the four exclusive minifigs that LEGO plans to give away and it is probably just an item for sale at the booth.

Next is a reveal for an upcoming set based The LEGO Movie coming out January 2015. It looks to be a small set featuring Batman, Angry Kitty, a Micromanager, and a skeleton. Hopefully this picture isn’t cropped and hiding a gigantic model in the background somewhere because this would be a cheap way to get Angry Kitty even though she is a different design than the one that comes in Emmet’s Construct-o-Mech.

The second reveal is the Star Wars themed retail exclusive mentioned in my previous article, The Ghost ship. Retailing for $39.99 it features the R2 unit, Chopper. And being built in the same Chibi style as Rocket’s Warbird, my hope of a full-sized TV series Batmobile is quickly diminishing. The Ghost, Batmobile, and Warbird all retail for $39.99 and are limited to 250 each per day of the con not including preview night.
