The second episode of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs tomorrow on ABC and after last weeks explosive debut, it seems Marvel and ABC are already trying to take it to the next level. Both Agent Coulson himself, series star Clark Gregg and Marvel.com’s executive editorial director Ryan Penagos have booth suggested viewers watch everything, credits included, saying “make sure you stay tuned until the end, proper Marvel style.” Eagle eyed fans will notice an easter egg at the end of the promo that could be a hint to what these teases are pointing to. I’ll tell you this, if my local Canadian affiliate pre-empts the end and I miss it I will be furious.
If you’re excited about Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. then rejoice because the wait ends tomorrow with the series premier on ABC. Marvel and ABC are certainly excited because an email I received called it “The Biggest Event On Television!”. Take that series finale of M*A*S*H, moon landing and every Super Bowl ever! I can’t wait to see the resurrection of Agent Phil Coulson and how they plan to make this show exist in the MCU “without it being a super hero of the week show”.
Check your local listings for times and feel free to comment here on what you thought about the first episode afterward, but don’t expect me to read it until I’ve had a chance to watch it after work.
I’ve got my fingers crossed that Cobie Smulders will join the cast full time if the show gets a second season, now that HIMYM is in its last. What would you like to see in the show, knowing that they don’t want to fill it up with popular characters or superheroes? Hydra shenanigans? Amadeus Cho? The Baxter building? I know that there’s talk of a show focusing on Agent Carter and the origins of S.H.I.E.L.D., but I’d still love to see Dum Dum Dugan still kicking around (in direct opposition to the deleted scenes from The Avengers) compliments of the Infinity Formula. It could make a future Nick Fury film and this series quite interesting indeed.
Bummed that there won’t be any LEGO content at NYCC in October to drain your wallet? Well it looks like eFX Inc. is stepping up to offer Marvel fans an exclusive collectable many won’t be able to refuse. As of this morning they began taking pre-orders for a replica of Agent Phil Coulson’s S.H.I.E.L.D. badge and if you do pre-order, you’ll have the chance to give them your name, birthdate and a picture to receive a customized S.H.I.E.L.D. ID badge. When I saw it posted on CBR last night, I knew I had to have one, but my mistake was showing my wife… now I’m in for two. This is a great move with Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. set to hit the airwaves just one week from today and you can bet I’ll (or someone will) be posting on that at the time. For those who want them, but won’t be attending NYCC they’ll ship any that don’t get picked up after the fact. At your expense of course, on top of the $50 price tag. Here’s their full info:

With the debut of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC just days away, we are marking this historic occasion with a New York Comic-Con Exclusive Edition of a replica of Phil Coulson’s S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Badge and I.D. Card. The metal badge is made from the original master molds of the screen used badge, and the I.D. card is made from the original digital files. And, it comes in a real leather ID wallet, embossed with the S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem.
As a New York Comic-Con exclusive, fans can join the ranks of S.H.I.E.L.D. – at least, they’ll have the credentials to prove it. (Getting past security may be a whole different matter.) In addition to the replica of this incredible prop, the exclusive convention edition includes a personalized S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent I.D. card.
Beginning Tuesday morning, September 17, at 9 a.m. Pacific time (12 p.m. Eastern) a limited number will be available for pre-order to attendees for pick-up at New York Comic-Con to avoid waiting in line at the convention. We will give you instructions and rules on how to send a photo of yourself, along with your name and birth date, to eFX for their personalized S.H.I.E.L.D. I.D. card. (Personal information will be kept private and will not be sold or used for marketing purposes.)
As a unique collectible or as an early holiday gift, the limited edition of 1,500 pieces of the New York Comic-Con Exclusive Edition ensures that the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. personalized badge will be truly one of a kind!
Each badge is $50. Personalized, pre-order ID cards and badges must be picked up on site during New York Comic-Con (October 10-13) The Exclusive, personalized edition will also be available for purchase on location at the eFX booth (1869)
They’ll be offering some at the booth during the con, but this way you can avoid at least one line and have an opportunity to provide a picture ahead of time with no worry of them running out.
Coulson’s back and Joss Whedon has rewarded him with a new team and a sweet ride for screwing him over (with an snazzy death scene *SPOILERS!* Crap, I was supposed to say that first) in last summers blockbusting Avengers flick. I’ve been impatiently waiting to share this news and while the world was a buzz last week, ABC was reluctant to confirm picking up Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. until the weekend when all their ducks were in a row. This promo aired during the season finale of Once Upon A Time and I’m guessing it added a few views to that shows ratings for the night as they also launched the first phase of their MAOS viral campaign. I’m really looking forward to this and was pleased to see the apparent confirmation of a suspicion I had regarding the casting of J. August Richards and the secrecy surrounding his character. After the unfulfilled rumours of a Heroes For Hire show and the scrapping of AKA Jessica Jones, I’m pleased to believe that the potential for these concepts to be wrapped into Agents is even greater and that isn’t lost on Joss. I look forward to finding out how Coulson has managed to remain breathing, the possibility of finally getting an agent Phil figure and the increased probability of seeing a fig based on a certain unbreakable skinned hero. Fingers crossed the cancellation curse will skip this Whedon television outing. Oh, and that it’ll be good.
