I was going to make a post of the news that
Buttercup Chickenstrips Benedict Cumberbatch was being considered for the role of Dr. Strange, Sorcerer Supreme, but I figured I’d roll it up into one post. Marvel has announced their timetable for Phase 3 of their Cinematic Universe.

I was going to make a post of the news that
As a fan of the Marvel films, I love reading and watching features that talk about the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the reasons why the movies have worked so well is that the Marvel has gone out of its way to keep the MCU meshed together and tie it from one film to the next. Avengers was amazing because Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America were done well and just moved right into it.
However, if you don’t want to see the awesome, you might want to know that there will be more previews to taunt us for Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. Normally, I try to ignore spoilers and trailers for movies like this because I like being surprised, but yeah… between Rocket Raccoon and Falcon, I just can’t get enough. I guess I’m hooked on a feeling or something…
A very small role. Tiny even. Nevertheless, he will be staring in Edgar Wright’s Ant Man as the titular character and at this point the only question is ‘which one’? Wright had this to say when interviewed by Superherohype, a couple years back and it made me want to see his take even more:
“The idea that we have for the adaptation is to actually involve both… Henry Pym and Scott Lang, so you actually do a prologue where you see Pym as Ant-Man in action in the 60’s, in sort of ‘Tales to Astonish’ mode basically, and then the contemporary, sort of flash-forward, is Scott Lang’s story, and how he comes to acquire the suit, how he crosses paths with Henry Pym, and then, in an interesting sort of Machiavellian way, teams up with him.”
If this is still the vision they’re moving forward with after all this time, I would have guessed Rudd would play Lang, with a… more seasoned actor playing Hank Pym in the modern timeframe, but The Wrap is reporting that Rudd will portray Pym. This is all yet to be confirmed by Marvel, or anyone involved, but that should be cleared up soon. If Rudd is to play Pym, then perhaps the rumour about Joseph Gordon-Levitt being considered is true as well. Rudd as Pym and Gordon-Levitt as Lang… yeah, I’d watch that. No word on other casting yet, but being the first film of Phase III and still almost two years away with a release date of July 31st, 2015 after the Avengers: Age Of Ultron in May, there’s still plenty of time to get their ducks in a row.
Spoilers abound in this news round-up for the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase 2, so if you’re the type who prefers to stick their head in the sand until a movie comes out then go no further. First up, S.H.I.E.L.D. has a couple of new recruits. Actually, new is a relative term…
The 10-disc set above was set for a holiday release last year when Rimowa, the company that makes the suitcase, filed a suit against Marvel for illegal usage. They were okay with Marvel using it on-screen as Nick Fury carries the Teserac Cube in it; but they weren’t okay with Marvel selling a replica case for the 10-disc set. Either Marvel and Rimowa came to a licensing agreement or Marvel created a new case that was similar but different enough for the suit to go away. In either case, I just got a notice that Amazon has started shipping that 10-disc set to people who kept their pre-orders which I can’t imagine was a whole lot of people. In order to entice you to consider buying it, they are throwing in a sneak peek at the next movie in the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Man 3. I’m pretty sure everything in the case is intact, so to summarize, here’s what you get in the set:
- Marvel’s The Avengers film (Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray)
- Captain America: The First Avenger film (Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray)
- Thor film (Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray)
- Iron Man 2 film (Blu-ray)
- The Incredible Hulk film (Blu-ray)
- Iron Man film (Blu-ray)
- Top-secret Bonus Disc
Plus all the other goodies we previewed before. The official release date for the shelf spacer taker upper is April 2.
For those of you who pre-ordered Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled (10-Disc Limited Edition Six-Movie Collector’s Set) [Blu-ray] from Amazon, there is a bit of news regarding its release. According to VideoETA, Disney pulled the listing due to a legal dispute regarding the design of the suitcase used to house the set. Amazon still has the page up but aren’t accepting any more preorders at this moment. It’s only a matter of time until the design of the case is changed or an agreement can be made but being this close to the release date though, I’m thinking the latter will most likely happen. Stay tuned here for updates.
The Avengers arrive on Blu-ray/DVD on September 25th, 2012.
Thanks to Morgan19 for the heads up.
Marvel brought their Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled 10-Disc Limited Edition Six-Movie Collector’s Set to SDCC for a little show and tell before they released this trailer on Thursday. It’s a great looking set with a whack of extras and the price for pre-order on Amazon at the moment is $139.96 which is only $23 per movie. This set and the anticipation I’ve had for it is the reason I never bought any of these movies after Kevin Feige began to talk about the long-term plan for the MCU. It will also be the straw that breaks the camels back and forces me to buy a Blu-ray player…
Damn You 21st Century!
Our intrepid field reporter/head honcho type took these photo’s of the set in all its glory at SDCC where if you pre-ordered (for $189!) you’d get the sweet limited edition poster of the dvd packaging seen above.
