Rocket Raccoon #1 LEGO Variant Out Today

Rocket_Raccoon_1_Lego_Variant

Today is the day to get your hands on issue 1 of the first ongoing Rocket Raccoon series and the Stan Lee LEGO variant that comes along with it. Canadian collectors, keep in mind that there may be a delay due to the holiday yesterday, but call your local shop and ask if they’ll be in and if they’re getting this magnificent cover. The Variant cover by Leonel Castellani, would make an excellent addition to any LEGO variant collection and I’ve no doubt the book will be a fun read with Scottie Young doubling up on art and writing duties inside.

I’ve updated the Cover Gallery accordingly and added more of the missing issues and release date for the super late Hawkeye #15 as well. Good luck hunting.

Rocket Raccoon Gets His Own Comic and a LEGO Variant Cover Too

Rocket_Raccoon_1_Lego_Variant

For those that don’t pay attention to comics, you may have missed the Rocket Raccoon comic given out on Free Comic Book Day to get fans excited for his first solo ongoing title, written and drawn by Scottie Young. The big news for us is that Marvel has decided to dust off the old LEGO cover concept and give us one dedicated to the man himself, Stan Lee.

A million times yes. A true oversight last year in promotion of the LEGO Marvel Superheroes game, since Stan played such a fun part in it. Luckily, Leonel Castellani has been brought back to correct this oversight. I could do with a few more of these myself (key word being “few”) and I’d love to see one as a Guardians Of The Galaxy variant with the now released full roster of figures. Here is the press release on the comic for those interested in what’s inside this one:

This July, blast off with the smallest Guardian of the Galaxy (packing the biggest gun) in ROCKET RACCOON #1 – written and drawn by Eisner-award winning storyteller Skottie Young! Today, Marvel is proud to present your new look at this highly anticipated ongoing series launching ahead of one of the biggest movies of the Summer!

As defenders of the cosmos go, Rocket Raccoon has faced his fair share of battles. He’s been a hero to the weak, a champion of the good, and a protector the innocent. Not to mention a heartthrob to many intergalactic species across the galaxy. But is he ready to be…a fugitive?!

Framed for a crime he didn’t commit, Rocket and his pal Groot’s high-flying life of adventure and heroism may be a thing of the past as he’ll soon find himself on the run and on the wrong side of the law. And the authorities aren’t the only one’s hot on his TAIL! (Too easy). An intergalactic boxing match, fierce alien creatures, and a deadly militia of Rocket’s ex-girlfriends known only as the Exterminators – and that’s just the FIRST ISSUE!

“Despite Rocket’s attitude and antics he has a heart under there, says Skottie Young, in an interview with Marvel.com. “He has some things he may or may not want to need in his life. He’s going to have to examine that. When you’re believed to be the last of your kind left in this galaxy or all the galaxies, that’s something you carry with you. That plays a role in the way you operate. We’ll see him explore that a little bit.”

“But ya know, right after that he’ll probably shoot some stuff,” he continued.

It’s one raccoon (but whatever you do, DO NOT call him a raccoon) against the entire galaxy this July as superstar creator Skottie Young brings his A-game! And the galaxy won’t even know what hit it! You do not want to miss the highly anticipated ROCKET RACCOON #1 when it blasts its way into comic shops and digital devices this July 2nd!

The only odd thing is that Rocket is one of the Marvel characters Stan had no hand in creating and he was almost not included as a cameo in the film, so him showing up on this comic is kind of funny. I personally, will be laughing all the way to the comic book shop.

Excelsior!

Indestructible Hulk #14

Back to a reasonable three titles for this weeks Marvel LEGO Variant covers, so if you love Iron Man, the Hulk or that mischievous merc with a mouth Deadpool, you’ll want to get to your local shop quickly on Wednesday. Or hit up Midtown below. Hawkeye #13 has been pushed out again, so no word on a date for #15. We’ll keep you posted, but effectively this will be the last weekly cover update. I hope everyone enjoys playing the game, I’ll have to wait until my son gets his WiiU at years end because there’s no Wii version. At least I’ll have my covers to enjoy until then.

Marvel’s LEGO Variant Covers For October 16th, 2013

Avengers #21

Huge week for Marvel’s LEGO Variant Covers this Wednesday with 5 titles equalling ten elusive variants. Superior Spider-Man #19 is not only the most iconic of the bunch, but the most sought after and expensive too. At 85 smackers, discounted from a whopping $100, it’s not cheap by any means. If yesterday was a holiday in your area your comic shop may be off a day on getting their new comics or maybe just getting them out later in the day, so heads up. I feel sorry for a lot of the variant collectors this week with some of these titles having many variants not even including the LEGO ones. Time to get on the horn to my shop, I’m all in at this point.

All. In.

Interestingly, Hawkeye #13 hits the stands tomorrow, so it could be a couple months until #15 hits shelves. Unless they try to speed up the release dates, which seems to be the case based on next weeks expected titles.

Marvel LEGO Variant Comic Covers Gallery Page Is Now Live

SUPSM2013019_DC31AVEN2012021_DC21

As promised a couple weeks ago, the page with all the available Marvel LEGO cover variants can now be found in the feature section here. In every possible case we’ve included the virgin art without titles and barcodes as well as final cover art. At the moment we are only really trying to nail down the majority of the Hawkeye art. Poor Clint, his book is critically acclaimed and more popular than any he’s had before and he’s still the last guy picked.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Marvel for sending us the file images and Leonel Castellani for doing such a great job with all these covers. Hope everyone interested has found the ones they’re looking for!

Avengers A.I. #4

Wednesday’s new comic book day for this week has three new LEGO covers promoting the upcoming game. Fantastic Four #13 and Superior Spider-Man #19 have been pushed back into next weeks grouping, which should put it at six books. As it already looks like my local shop doesn’t stock enough of those titles to get these variants, I’m wary of such a large bunch all at once. So, I may have to make use of Midtown myself to get the Cap and Loki variants. I’ve really enjoyed seeing the sketch variants of these covers and seeing the changes made to the final images. Personally, I would have been even more excited had the final colour version been of the classic Captain America suit, but I’d be happy either way.

All New X-Men #17

This Wednesday’s new comic book day only gives us two covers promoting the upcoming LEGO Marvel Super Heroes game, so it should be easier on some wallets. All New X-Men #17 with Leonel Castellani’s fantastic homage to Jim Lee’s cover of X-Men #1 from back in 1991 should be quite popular. Also, the cover for Marvel Universe: Avengers Assemble #1 includes Falcon, which is the only character to appear on one of these covers that hasn’t been produced as a minifig… yet. The book is also based on the new cartoon aimed at an all ages audience and those books are usually not ordered in great quantity, so expect it to be a tad more rare then some of the others.

CBR Reveals Two More Marvel Comics LEGO Variant Covers

Uncanny Avengers #12 - LEGO VariantMighty Avengers #1 - LEGO Variant

It’s new comic book day and CBR is celebrating by revealing two more exclusive Marvel Comics LEGO variant covers to help you get over this weeks hump. This time Leonel Castellani has done homages to another Jim Lee cover and Steve Ditko’s “Unmasked by Dr. Octopus!” cover from The Amazing Spider-Man #12. The more I see of these, the more my wallet hurts and I’m beginning to view September through a giddily dreadful delight. These covers will adorn Uncanny Avengers #12 and Mighty Avengers #1, respectively.

I need to call my comic shop.

LEGO Magneto Cover Variant Revealed

legoMagneto

Forum member TooMuchDew did some sleuthing on his own and found the above variant cover for the upcoming All New X-men #17 by, who else, Leonel Castellani. This cover pays tribute to the Jim Lee gatefold cover of X-men Volume 2 published way back in 1991. It would have been awesome if Castellani did the other three sections of Lee’s famous cover.

Seen any covers we haven’t… covered… here yet? Drop us a line and let us know.

Updated: A Brand New Day For LEGO Comic Variant Covers

Daredevil #31 - LEGO Spider-man Variant

CBR has hit the Jackpot with an exclusive look at the LEGO variant cover for Daredevil #31, coming to help promote the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes game this September. Big Spidey fan here and even though I wasn’t keen on the whole Brand New Day debacle, I like the cover and will probably just put this up in a frame because I don’t collect Daredevil. The question is; if Spider-man is on the Daredevil cover, does that mean the man without fear will be MIA in the game? As it stands, we’ve seen no new characters that haven’t already appeared in actual plastic. That could be good for fans of those specific figs if we end up with multiple classic cover homages each, but personally I’d rather see some variety. I mean, who doesn’t want to see Rocket Raccoon in minifig form?
Spread the love around Marvel.

Update: Marvel also posted this Variant cover for Nova #8 last night. At this point (which, admittedly it’s still early with only a handful of covers revealed) it seems lucky for Nova that he already has a minifig.
