Update: The LEGOLand offer is no longer being offered. Here’s the official word from Shop@Home regarding the matter:

If you signed up and registered as a LEGO® VIP member prior to September 23, 2011, you will still be able to redeem your voucher during the week of October 24-30, 2011, provided there is capacity at your chosen park, and you comply with all the terms and conditions for the promotion as posted at http://vip.lego.com/promotions. Thank you for your excitement for the LEGO® brand and the LEGOLAND® Parks, and your overwhelming response to this promotion.

Checked my mailbox today and found a small catalog, confirming the rumors from the last few weeks.

Yes, October is Double Points month for all of you VIP Members! This is good for orders from Shop At Home, in a LEGO Store, or over the phone.

LEGOLAND Deutschland Star Wars Fan Display

The trench run from episode 4 ... A new hope.

LEGOLAND CA wasn’t the only park to have Star Wars Days. LEGOLAND Deutschland hosted their own event recently. Dutch Moonbase was on hand with an extremely impressive collaborative display featuring the Death Star Trench Run and a Tatooine landscape. Some pictures are in our flickr Outpost, tons more on Dutch Moonbase’s web page.

LEGO Star Wars Diorama at LEGOLand Germany

According to the news report here (translated), LEGOLand Germany will have a special diorama section in Miniland devoted to LEGO Star Wars. Not only that, but it seems that it will be at minifig scale instead of the usual miniland scale. The new section is scheduled to open in June 2011.

Thanks to minicoop for the news!

Coming Soon: LLCA Star Wars Days 2010!

Update: as Commander Keller on the forums (and probably others who didn’t score as low as me in reading comprehension) noted, Legoland’s page says that participants in the Trivia game have a chance to win the elusive White Boba Fett minifig!

Legoland California’s annual weekend tribute to Star Wars is fast approaching: mark your calendars and make your plans for Saturday August 7th and Sunday August 8th!

Activities include the traditional 501st Droid Hunt game, costume contests, and fan displays. One highlight of the fan display will be Brickplumber’s Endor landing platform dio.

Also fleshing out the weekend are building challenges, trivia games, and more! See Legoland California’s event page for the full agenda.

Hit the break for more shots of last year’s fun! (more…)

Model Builders Wanted!

I’m a Model Designer at Merlin Entertainment’s Legoland Development model shop in Carlsbad, CA. When I was hired as a Model Builder 10 months ago, we were working on Legoland Malaysia. Now we’re hard at work on the production of Legoland Florida. With upcoming Legoland Discovery Centers and attractions being announced at an exciting rate, the job security is awesome. Our shop is looking to grow even larger to accommodate the production of the new parks. And with that growth comes your chance to join our expanding team!

From Legoland:

Do you have what it takes to be a Master Model Builder? LEGOLAND is currently looking to add five people to the team at the LEGOLAND Development Model Shop. Work on exciting new projects for LEGOLAND Florida, LEGOLAND Malaysia and the new LEGOLAND Water Park in California opening in June. Applications will be accepted from now until April 30th.

Go here for Legoland’s career page and click on job id 291 Model Builder.

I’m happy to answer questions as best I can in the comments!

Be a Legoland California Model Builder!

While I continue hammering out an exhaustive Star Wars Days post, I thought I would drop by and share with you guys an exciting opportunity: Legoland California is looking for new model builders!

Has it always been your dream to build Lego for a living? Here’s your shot!

Interviews and build challenges for the positions (I’m told there are 6 slots they’re looking to fill) are June 24th and 25th. Instead of a nationwide search and competition, they seem to be going for a more low-key hiring process this time around.

Longtime FBTB fans might remember I applied for a model builder position at Legoland back in 2006. Those same fans might also remember how sad I was when I didn’t make it past the first round. Did it deter me? Nope! I’m going to give it another shot!

Hit the break for the entire job description and details

How To Get A Chrome Stormtrooper For Cost

If youre hankering for a chrome Stormtrooper and dont want to pay inflated prices, youre in luck. Maybe.

You can order a Chrome Stormtrooper directly from the park. Cost is $12.99 plus tax if you live in California, and shipping starts at $7 for UPS ground. If you take a peak at this page, there are three ways you can order: phone, fax or email. The reason I said maybe is because I have had no luck trying to hail someone using the phone method, but you may be luckier than me. If youre emailing or faxing, youll need the following part number: 4560075. This is actually a magnet set, and you only get it the one figure. But it comes in a neat little anniversary-themed package. Limit two per order.

Good luck!

Update: I’ve been told that the park can no longer accept any orders at this time due to wanting to save a supply for this weekends Star Wars Days. If anything changes, I will update this post once more.

Reminder: Podracers Wanted for Star Wars Weekend LEGOLand, CA

Just a quick note that Star Wars weekend is coming up on June 13 and 14 at LEGOLand, CA. If you built a podracer for our Podracer Challenge building contest a few months back and it’s still intact and you’re interested in having it on display at the event, leave a message on the forum thread or use the fancy Contact Us page. You’ll need to ship me the model, and after the weekend’s over, I would, of course, ship it back. We have a big Tatooine theme going on, and would love to have some more eye candy for the park visitors.

The Force Returns to LEGOLAND, CA For Star Wars Days

I received the following press release for the upcoming Star Wars Weekend at LEGOLAND, CA:

Special two-day event features Xbox 360 gaming, Droid Hunt, daily costume contests ?and a special visit from Darth Vader himself

CARLSBAD, Calif. (April 20, 2009) – The Force returns to LEGOLAND® California on June 13 and 14 during LEGO® STAR WARS Days. Darth Vader and his 501st Legion of stormtroopers will invade the family theme park to interact with fans all weekend long, and LEGOLAND guests will also be able to take part in out-of-this-world activities like the Droid Hunt, video game battles, trivia competitions, building activities, scavenger hunts and daily costume contests.?

For the first time ever during LEGO STAR WARS Days, fans of all ages can experience the new Xbox Family GameSpace, where they can play LEGO STAR WARS games all weekend long. The Xbox Family GameSpace features 13 game stations, providing an optimal gaming experience. Xbox Family GameSpace is a new permanent feature at LEGOLAND California where guests can experience LEGO STAR WARS and other family-friendly games year-round.

One of the most popular LEGO STAR WARS Days events is the Droid Hunt. Guests of all ages receive “droid badges” if they are among the first to stop by a specially marked table in The Beginning of the Park, where they will learn a special droid quote from within the STAR WARS Saga. When guests wearing droid badges are “caught” within the Park by members of the 501st Legion, they must recite the quote to receive a raffle ticket for the chance to win fantastic LEGO STAR WARS and LEGOLAND California merchandise.

Other features and attractions include the LEGO STAR WARS Fan Gallery, highlighting LEGO STAR WARS creations built by local fans and LEGO Club members; Jedi Trivia Contests, which allow guests to use their STAR WARS knowledge to compete for fabulous prizes; and a Miniland U.S.A. scavenger hunt to discover scrambled letters hidden by clone trooper mini-figures. Those who locate all the letters and unscramble the secret phrase will be entered into a contest to win a family four-pack of LEGOLAND California tickets and exclusive LEGO STAR WARS merchandise.?

Also, guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite STAR WARS characters and participate in daily costume contests. Prizes will be awarded in two age categories: 8 and younger and 9 to 15. Each prize is valued at more than $500 and includes exclusive LEGO STAR WARS toys, collectible gear and tickets to LEGOLAND California.
