LEGOLAND California Opens The LEGO Movie Experience

TLM Experience Logo

If you live in the Southern California area and are looking for something to do this weekend besides go see the movie for the nth time, check out what LEGOLAND California is doing. They are debuting The LEGO Movie Experience starting tomorrow February 20 at the LEGOLAND Soundstage. I can’t seem to find an end date for the Experience, but expect LEGOLAND to milk this thing for as long as possible. The entire basement set is going to be there along with a tone of other sets and scenes. You can get an idea of what to expect by checking out the photos here in this Fandango interview article with Wyldstyle voice actor Elizabeth Banks. I plan on being there Saturday with the family so if you see me wandering around the park come say hi!

Thanks to chief for finding that link.

Opee Sea Killer Debuts at LEGOLAND CA

Rob Hendrix over at Lifelites LLC had a busy February. He lent his expertise in modifying some of the new models slated to be unveiled at the expanded Star Wars Miniland at LEGOLAND CA on March 29th, one of which is featured in the video above: Opee Sea Killer. From Rob:

Opee sea killer has a custom made lighting controller inside for the fish’s eyes and the connected Gungan sub. There are 4 LEDs in each fish eye and a total of 28 LEDs in the sub. 8 of the lights flash in a rotating pattern for the propulsion engine effect.

Sounds awesome and this is probably one of the few times I’ll ever wish for inclement weather in Socal. I want to be able to see all the lighting effects in this model and the other one he worked on. There are a few other surprises in store for the revamped area of the park. And it’s no coincidence that Star War Days was bumped up from it’s normal summertime time slot to occur during opening weekend. Marketing wins again. But hopefully that won’t stop you from attending. The Fan Gallery is going to be killer. Don, Ryan, and I will be in attendance all weekend so come on out and introduce yourself.

Star Wars Days at LEGOLAND CA Update

Star Wars Days 2012

I just slogged through my email and responded to everyone that expressed interest in sending in Podracers for the Episode I Movie Build. If you haven’t received an email from me, please check your spam folder as it may have ended up there. There’s still time to mail in your entry or arrive at the park to set it up yourself. Hit us up through the contact form for more information.

On a side note, I was laid off of my job last week. So if anyone out there is hiring or knows of a job for an HTML/CSS/Javascript/Wordpress front end developer, let me know!

Star Wars Days Update: Volunteer Shirt, Podracers

Volunteer Shirt

Just a quick update on Star Wars Days at LEGOLAND CA (March 31-April 1).

All time slots for volunteers have been filled. Thank you to everyone who replied and confirmed. The picture above is the shirt that the volunteers will be receiving. And before you ask, this shirt IS NOT/WILL NOT be for sale. They are given only to the volunteers to the various clubs participating that day. The back of the shirt will have the name of the clubs involved.

CALLING ALL PODRACERS: FBTB will be giving away cash to one lucky podracer that is displayed throughout the weekend. Fifty big ones (You’ll need paypal to receive the funds). It’s simple: wrap up your podracer extremely carefully, put it in a box and mail it to me. A jury panel consisting of Don, Ryan, and myself will judge which one we like best and notify the winner. After the weekend, I’ll mail all the podracers back to their respective owners and throw in an FBTB t-shirt as a way of saying “thanks”. Interested? Send us a message. All podracers must be received by March 24th to qualify. Interested in dropping off/displaying in person? Send us a message and we’ll work out the details.

Star Wars Days 2011: MOC Roundup

Chibi Slave 1 and McPod

As with each Star Wars Days event at LEGOLAND, fans were once again invited to display their related creations and share them with the public. This year, thanks to some local fans and a few forum members who shipped in their MOCs, FBTB had a few tables with a great spread to show off. Hit the jump for an overview of our booth and some highlights from the rest of the fan displays.

Brandon Griffith’s Jedi Chess Set

What's missing???

Brandon Griffith (icgetaway) made a splash at last year’s Star Wars Days with his Empire Strikes Back-themed chess set. His follow-up act of a Return of the Jedi-themed set will be unveiled to the world this weekend at LEGOLAND CA and will surely be a hit. Shrouded in secrecy, you can view some WIP pics in his photostream. I’ll be taking a plenty of pics of this and all the other mocs at Star Wars Days at LEGOLAND CA on June 18 and 19. Hope to see you there!

Star Wars Miniland Promotional Video

LEGO PR sent over a few videos early this morning, two of which I won’t show since they are part of the video above. It gives a sneak peak into what’s in store for Star Wars Miniland, how it was constructed, and the people behind the scenes. Star Wars Miniland officially opens to the public on Thursday March 31. See you there!

Help Build Star Wars Miniland

Sort of…. LEGOLAND CA posted a facebook status update with the following:

On Friday, March 18 LEGOLAND® California invites guests to build a part of STAR WARS™ Miniland brick by brick as they create a giant LEGO® mosaic depicting memorable scenes from Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. Like paint by numbers, guests match bricks to colored squares on LEGO base plates. Master Model Builders at LEGOLAND estimate the 15-foot-long, 7.5-foot-tall mural will take about five days for guests to complete. The mural will be built at The Beginning of the Park and moved to the Star Wars Miniland area in time for opening March 31. For more information, visit

And since we try to post a picture with every post, here’s one of a mural they had on display from Star Wars Days way back from 2007.

Sith/Jedi Mosaic

It’ll be interesting to see what the final image is going to look like.
