With the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on Blu-ray/DVD tomorrow, and Target having their exclusive version that comes with an exclusive Bilbo Baggins minifigure, and with the announcement of the exclusive Special Forces Commander Clone Trooper minifigure included with The Yoda Chronicles book, I figured now would be as good of a time as any to make a checklist for all the exclusive minifigs that came with a book, video game, or Blu-ray/DVD release.

Not much in the way of Cyber Monday LEGO deals worth mentioning. TRU has their week-long LEGO BOGO 50% sale (excludes Star Wars and Ninjago) and Shop@Home is still recovering from their Brick Friday sale (holiday gift set #2 no longer available; you still get 10% off $149 or more; free shipping on $49 or more; 25% off some stuff). But Amazon does have a nice sale price on the LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia. Its listed MSRP is $18.99. If I recall correctly, the lowest sale price to date was somewhere around $11 and some change. Right now, you can buy the book for $9.49, a discount of 50% off.
On another note, if you missed out on getting 10194 Emerald Night from Shop@Home during Brick Friday, Amazon still has it for $89.99, a 10% discount off of MSRP. Discount isn’t as nice as Shop@Home’s 25% but considering its status there is “Sold Out”, it’s a sure fire sign that it is discontinued and will no longer be produced.

Congratulations to the four of you! Your books will be on their way. If you were one of the unlucky, don’t worry as our December giveaways are right around the corner!
No battle packs this month. Instead, we’re giving away four sets of books pictured above. Should you be one of the lucky, you will receive one copy of LEGO Star Wars: Character Encyclopedia and one copy of The LEGO Ideas Book. Huw Millington of Brickset and I worked on the Character Encyclopedia book. Daniel Lipkowitz penned the Ideas book; his name should be familiar to many of you as he has also written the LEGO Master Builder Academy manuals as well as other stories and publications. Entertainment Marketing Group and DK Publishing is sponsoring this giveaway so let’s all say thank you and give them a big round of applause.
To enter, all you need to do is send an email with your mailing address and GIMME SOME BOOKS as the subject line to firstname.lastname@example.org. Contest is open to anyone in the world. Enter only once or be ridiculed publicly. You have one week to send me your email; the giveaway window closes on 11:59pm PST Tuesday November 22nd, 2011. Standard giveaway rules apply. Four winners will be chosen at random.
According to the Amazon page, the LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia is available now! Our previous report had it pegged at September 19th, but it looks like the books are coming off the presses a little earlier than anticipated! If you haven’t preordered one yet, the price is still at a low, low $11.71. Huw Millington from Brickset and I both consulted on the book and I’m really excited to finally get my hands on the final product. Included with every book is a minifig of Ceremonial Han Solo with Medal as he appeared at the end of Episode IV, to match the Luke minifig you get from the LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary.
According to Amazon’s page, the release date for the LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia has been bumped up from October 3 to September 19, 2011. That’s a little over a month away! The cost is still only $11.16. This combined with the Advent Calendar, you can get a lot of Christmas shopping done early.
DK Publishing’s latest book, LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia, is being printed, assembled, and bound as we speak. A few days ago, StarWars.com posted an article giving you a preview of some of the interior pages of the book including a sneak preview of the minifigure exclusive, Ceremonial Han Solo, pictured below. I’m not a huge fan of that chin print, but what are you going to do. Both Huw Millington of Brickset and I consulted on the book. It came down to the wire with some of the corrections that we submitted, so I’m curious what did and didn’t make it through. The DK booth at Comic Con had a copy of the book on display. It feels rather substantial, and the full color images are breathtaking. Expect a full review when I get my hands on a copy. Hit the image on the right sidebar to preorder the book from Amazon. Release date is set for October 3, 2011.
Thanks to HothTrooper for the heads up.
To celebrate FBTB’s return to the Amazon Affiliate program, I’ve updated the right sidebar link from the Star Wars Blu-Ray page to the LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia book being published by DK Publishing because the movies are old, and everyone’s already seen it and also because the book is new and pretty darn cool. And it has nothing to do with the fact that I consulted on the book. The current price as I write this is $11.16 direct from Amazon. With their pre-order price guarantee, if Amazon’s price changes, you’ll pay the lowest price no matter when you place your pre-order. The release date for the book is October 3, 2011, just in time for the holidays.
Just like the LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary book before it, it comes with an exclusive new figure. The figure was supposed to be a secret… but browsing Amazon.co.uk’s page for the book, the figure has been revealed to be Ceremonial Han Solo from the final scene in A New Hope!

Got some news in email today, and among them there was a link to this page on StarWars.com showcasing some of DK Publishing’s newest books slated for release sometime in 2011. The most interesting book was the Character Encyclopedia which is a visual compendium of every LEGO Star Wars minifigure to date. And, like the Visual Dictionary, it will come with an exclusive minifigure. Hopefully, it will be a medal ceremony Han Solo to complement the Luke figure.
