Avengers Box Set Pulled For Now

For those of you who pre-ordered Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled (10-Disc Limited Edition Six-Movie Collector’s Set) [Blu-ray] from Amazon, there is a bit of news regarding its release. According to VideoETA, Disney pulled the listing due to a legal dispute regarding the design of the suitcase used to house the set. Amazon still has the page up but aren’t accepting any more preorders at this moment. It’s only a matter of time until the design of the case is changed or an agreement can be made but being this close to the release date though, I’m thinking the latter will most likely happen. Stay tuned here for updates.

The Avengers arrive on Blu-ray/DVD on September 25th, 2012.

Thanks to Morgan19 for the heads up.

MCU Phase One: Avengers Assembled Box Set Trailer

Marvel brought their Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled 10-Disc Limited Edition Six-Movie Collector’s Set to SDCC for a little show and tell before they released this trailer on Thursday. It’s a great looking set with a whack of extras and the price for pre-order on Amazon at the moment is $139.96 which is only $23 per movie. This set and the anticipation I’ve had for it is the reason I never bought any of these movies after Kevin Feige began to talk about the long-term plan for the MCU. It will also be the straw that breaks the camels back and forces me to buy a Blu-ray player…
Damn You 21st Century!

SDCC Avengers DVD Pre-order Poster

Our intrepid field reporter/head honcho type took these photo’s of the set in all its glory at SDCC where if you pre-ordered (for $189!) you’d get the sweet limited edition poster of the dvd packaging seen above.

Marvel’s Avengers on DVD/Blu-ray Details

Marvel's Avengers 10-disc set

While I’m still basking in the afterglow from watching the Avengers movie, I was surprised to find out a few days ago that some details for the DVD sets have been “released”. Most of the details have been gleaned from Amazon.com so I’ll just summarize the key points here for you along with their current pre-order price. And if you pre-order now, you’re guaranteed the lowest price should it drop any further between the time you order and the time it ships, which is rumored to be around September 25th.

Review: The Avengers

The Avengers Review

Marvel has been building up to this point since Nick Fury made his first appearance at the end of Iron Man in 2008. There have been ups and downs in the outings of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, but for the most part they’ve been strong offerings with any blemishes (I’m looking at you Iron Man 2) being forgivable when you look at the the franchise as a whole. To say I’ve been excited about this movie would be an understatement, but even more than the characters individual films this one has a lot to prove. So does it live up to the hype, the legacy and this long time comic fans expectations? The short answer is…

Avengers Poster LEGO-ized

Avengers PosterLEGO Avengers Poster

Once again LEGO has chosen to hand out it’s exclusive media to a non-LEGO site and MTV.com posted this LEGO-ized Avengers poster this afternoon. It’s funny because when the original poster was released I thought it looked like a bad photoshop job compared to some excellent fan creations, but in LEGO form it looks great and I really hope they put out that Nick Fury fig soon.

Iron Man Stats @ LEGO.com

Not a lot going on over there yet, but you can get a better look at each of the figures by clicking on their action shot. It even gives some statistics on their intelligence, strength, speed, agility and fighting ability. Though I would argue many of the stats like Iron Man being only one point below Thor in strength, I found it amusing that Tony’s smarts are turned all the way up to 11…

The pre-orders can’t be far behind now, but if the rumoured Spider-man set exists I’ll bet it pulls a Dynamic Duo Funhouse and pops up out of nowhere at the last minute.

Marvel.com published an article yesterday with some official promotional pictures of the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Avengers sets. Hulk’s face is purposefully shadowed out. The LEGO booth at New York Toy Fair had the same prototype Hulk that was shown at San Diego Comic Con. If a final painted version exists, it hasn’t been seen or photographed yet. This is probably as close as it gets, for now anyway. More pics rehosted below, hi res available on their respective flickr pages.

Thanks to Pontus Lee for writing it in.

LEGO Toy Fair Exclusives 2012

Darth Maul Promo

I was wrong. This year’s exclusives from LEGO are actually exclusive. Or, at the very least, very difficult to come by.

First up as you can see is the Darth Maul minifigure. He’s packaged similar to white Boba Fett, Chrome Vader, etc, before him, so chances are he’ll be available through some other means later in the year. Possibly as a Shop@Home exclusive.

The next exclusives truly are exclusives. They are Iron Man and Bucky Barnes Captain America. The Iron Man is different in that the head is a printed minifig head piece, whereas the regular release figure will have a helmet with a flip up visor. This figure was specially made as a promo minifig like the Dark Knight version of Batman and the Green Lantern figures before it. Bucky Barnes Captain America was, if I recall correctly, produced while the script for the Avengers movie was being finalized. It was unknown if Bucky Barnes would play the role or if it would be Steve Rogers, so when it was determined that Steve Rogers would play the role of Cap, the Bucky Barnes version of the minifig was shelved. Until now.

Disclaimer: I’m a little under the influence as I post this, so the exact details of the origin of this special Cap figure may not be 100% factually correct, but that’s about as close as I can get it.

The Avengers Trailer Now Online!

You may or may not have noticed by now, but I really love super heroes so you can bet I’ve been anxiously waiting for this trailer to arrive. It’s just a teaser, but it’s great to see all the effort Marvel has put in to this massive undertaking finally pay off.

Thanks to Walter Boy for the heads up.
