Guardians of the Galaxy Gets The Steelbook Treatment

In some DVD/Blu-ray news today, SuperHeroHype is reporting details for the Guardians of the Galaxy Steelbook case, pictured above. Mimicking the appearance of an ’80’s walkman, the front cover displays the “Awesome Mix Vol. 1″ cassette and has the play/stop/forward/reverse buttons printed on the spine. This edition is exclusive to Zavvi in the UK. As usual, here in the US the Steelbook is a Best Buy exclusive and may come with a different version of the case.

According to SuperHeroHype, the DVD/Blu-ray is scheduled to be released on December 9, 2014 here in the US. If the Steelbook’s not your thing, you can pre-order the Guardians of the Galaxy (3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray + Digital Copy) directly from Amazon. For you music lovers, you can also pick up the Awesome Mix Vol.1 on CD for a mere $10 and includes a digital version of the album. There is no cassette version unfortunately.

I am Groot by Legohaulic

Look, if you haven’t seen Guardians of the Galaxy at this point, this picture will be a spoiler. My suggestion would be to stop reading this right now and go see the blasted movie! You’ve been warned… don’t look down there. Though I suppose we could argue that it was something that was already spoiled with the announcement of the animated show and the picture they released for it.

Anyway, the Guardians of the Galaxies MOCs just keep rolling, as well they should. The movie was awesome. And the MOCs, including this one by Legohaulic, is equally awesome.

I Am Groot

I’m still of the mindset that Marvel gets all the money if they make a dancing Groot toy for everyone to enjoy, and while I’m critical of Lego Ideas, I would be beating the drum to get this set made on there.

“Ain’t no thing like me, except me!”

The Raccoon

Powerpig keeps the sketches coming with this latest Marvel character to be realized in brick marker form. I’m seriously considering recreating a few of these stylized beauties and putting them in a frame at this point. I mean it, i’ll do it… probably. These just keep getting better Chris, keep up the good work.

Review: Guardians Of The Galaxy

rs_634x939-140801121953-634_Lego-Guardians-of-the-Galaxy_ms_080114

Many saw this film as a crazy Avengers in space Star Wars ripoff, that was too obscure to appeal to a wide audience and was likely going to be Marvel’s next misstep if not their biggest flop. Less than a week and over $170 million later, there’s only one thing to say to those folks… I. Am. Groot!

Review: 76020 Knowhere Escape Mission

76020 Knowhere Escape Mission 1

I was supposed to review the 76020 Knowhere Escape set way back when the Guardians of the Galaxy sets first hit the shelves. I had it built up and photographed and everything. My opinion of the set at the time wasn’t all that positive: a mediocre set released out of context. It’s not so much of a problem for something like a vehicle-based set, especially one where the final model is so aesthetically pleasing and satisfying to play with that context hardly matters, like 76021 The Milano Spaceship Rescue. However, that is not the case for Knowhere Escape. It is such a mish mash of different things that you needed the context to understand why the set was put together the way it is. And unfortunately, knowing the context didn’t help the final review score; it just made it worse.

LEGO-fied Guardians Of The Galaxy Poster

rs_634x939-140801121953-634_Lego-Guardians-of-the-Galaxy_ms_080114

As is tradition in these, the days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we have a new poster recreated in LEGO. Guardians of the Galaxy opened to a great start Thursday night and at this point is tracking to be north of $90 million for its opening weekend. It’s a long weekend in Canada and I have shockingly managed to be off for its entirety… somehow. I will use this to my advantage and attempt to bump that number up a few bucks by taking in a matinee tomorrow, which as of this moment feels like an eternity away.

[SDCC] Guardians Of The Galaxy Get A Sequel in 2017

collector-poster

Marvel’s confidence is growing everyday. This time they’ve already announced the sequel to GotG a week before it hits theaters and it’s the movie most considered to be their longshot. I personally can’t wait and will be going opening weekend so expect a review early next week. James Gunn has confirmed he will write the screenplay and direct, but with a sequel due July 28th, 2017, they’ll need something to keep the audiences warm for the next 3 years…

… so, they also confirmed the previously leaked animated series with a 60 second animation test at the con. There isn’t much info on the show yet, but we’ll update that as it pops up.

Until then, you can enjoy these latest character posters and get hyped up for the film this weekend.

[SDCC] Images of LEGO SDCC Exclusive Minifigure The Collector, Bard the Bowman

LEGO SDCC Exclusive The Collector 1

Today’s minifigure giveaway at the San Diego Convention Center is Marvel’s The Collector from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film. He features a double-sided head with one side being angry and the other side being less angry. I wasn’t lucky enough to get one but my friend was and he let me take these pictures. I was curious what the cardboard insert looked like and was disappointed to see that the inside of the folded backdrop was just a picture of the minifig. One of the things that I liked about last year’s minifig was how the cardboard insert doubled as a cityscape backdrop for a quick and easy display. Not so much with this year’s backdrop it looks like. Instead, it turns into a mini poster.

I also took some out-of-the-package pictures of yesterday’s Bard figure. The backdrop has the same treatment: just a mini-poster of the minifigure. Bard, too, features a double printed head as well.

If you look closely at the bottom left corner on the two packages, the Bard figure does not have the words “2014 Exclusive” underneath the Comic Con logo.

[SDCC] LEGO Comic Con Exclusives Revealed – Guardians of the Galaxy’s The Collector, Classic TV Batmobile, and Star Wars Ghost Starship

The-Collector

Once again, the Wall Street Journal is the place to be for they have spilled the beans partially on LEGO’s offerings for this year’s San Diego Comic Con. Pictured above is The Collector from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film. He is the first of four minifigures to be given away at SDCC and so far the only one to be revealed.

And that’s not all. The last paragraph of the article states the following:

The two other Lego sets that will be sold at the Lego booth are of a Batmobile from the classic television series, and of the Ghost starship from “Star Wars.” Each is priced at $39.99 and Lego will sell 1000 of each set during the show, capped at 250 per day

Oh. My. Freakin’. God. A classic tv series LEGO Batmobile would make my head explode. Based on the price point, it is feasible that it could be a regular set since the Ecto-1 and DeLorean sets were priced about the same. But looking at the LEGO Rocket Raccoon’s Warbird announcement from yesterday which features a mini ship at the same price, I’m left wondering. I can only hope that the Batmobile is regular sized but we’ll find out next week.

The article also shows off a lifesized Rocket Raccoon and Groot statue made out of Megabloks just kidding LEGO.

I have to go catch my breath now.
