Yesterday during Day 1 of DesignerCon 2013, FBTB sponsored the annual speed build event where a team of five builds a UCS-type set as quickly as possible. This year’s set was 10237 The Tower of Orthanc. BrickNerd filmed the event and posted it to their YouTube channel. Check it out above. Time to completion: 36 minutes and 53 seconds.
DesignerCon continues today until 5pm at the Pasadena Convention Center. More information can be found on the DesignerCon website.
Looking for something to do this weekend? If you live in the Los Angeles area, head on over to the Pasadena Convention Center for Designer Con 2013. The show this year is being held over two days instead of one as in previous years on Saturday November 9 from 9am to 6pm and Sunday November 10 form 9am to 5pm. You can register online early and save a few bucks, $5 per day, or pony up $7 at the door. The AFOL presence is being organized by S.T.U.D.S., a Brandon Griffith endeavor. FBTB and Bricknerd were invited to participate. As usual, we will be sponsoring the speed build event to be held sometime on Saturday. Come join us for a day of fun, toys, and art. More information about DCon can be found on Designer Con website.
One of the highlights of our booth was a speed build of 10221 Super Star Destroyer. I shot a time lapse video of the build at 1 frame per second and stitched it all together in the video above. This was the first known attempt at a speed build for this set. We set the world record at 1 hour, 31 minutes, and 38 seconds. The table we were building on was not ideal. So we had to borrow some space from another table, that’s why the main build of the ship disappears off camera for a few minutes. In hindsight, the main build should have been on the side of the table closest to the camera for a better view of the progress. Oh well. There’s always next year.
I took a handful of shots of other merchandise at the show, choosing to focus on Star Wars themed items. But now that I think of it, I should have taken more photos of other products. It’s really a great show, centered around the artist and the art they create. I highly suggest making an effort to go next year. We’ll be there again for sure.
Just a friendly reminder that Designer Con is happening tomorrow at the Pasadena Convention Center from 10am to 5pm. You can buy tickets online for $5 bucks or pay $7 at the door. FBTB will be there hosting a speed build of 10221 Super Star Destroyer at 1pm. OneLUG will also be there with their Last March of the Ents diorama which has to be seen in person. Pictures do not convey the scope of the project at all. Other members of LUGOLA will also be in attendance showing off various MOCs. Come by, say hi, and check out the rest of the designer art toy show while you’re there.
If you’re looking for something to do next Saturday November 5th, and you live in, around, or near the Los Angeles or Pasadena area or somewhere in between, come check out Designer Con at the Pasadena Convention Center from 10am to 5pm. “Now in its sixth year, Designer Con, is an annual art and design convention that smashes together collectible toys and designer apparel with urban, underground and pop art!” If you’re into vinyl art toys, this is a show you can’t miss. Other fellow LUGOLA members will also be present showing off their latest and greatest MOCs. FBTB will also be sponsoring a speed build event of 10221 Super Star Destroyer at 1:00pm.
