Star Wars Advent Calendar 2012 – Day 24 & Wrap-up

Day 24 - Santa Darth Maul
Day 24 – Santa Darth Maul

Santa Yoda was better, but at least now the Force is closer to being balanced and isn’t that what Life Day is all about? Maul’s a pretty popular guy right now, so I can see the appeal in giving him the starring role in this year’s calendar. If I can put in my order for next year now, how about a red Santa Vader building a Snow 3PO? Pretty sweet right? Or how about a Luke and Leia as elves building a Snow Vader? Either way, this year is now complete and it’s time to look to 2013 and all the good things the theme will (hopefully) have in store for us. First though, a quickie recap.

Shirtless Maul Found at TRU

Shirtless was spotted on TRU’s website with a price tag of $4.99. There’s no add to cart button so it may be a free promotional item with purchase at some point in the near future. Which also means that you may be able to just straight purchase the shirtless sith without having to meet any type of purchase limit to get the figure for free.

Thanks to ufjason for the news.

The highly anticipated, at least by me, Darth Vader desk lamp has been spotted at LEGOLAND California’s Big Shop today along with a slew of other new products including the horned Darth Maul clock, a Savage Opress clock, 30056 Star Destroyer polybag (which was a UK newspaper promotional item), and 30058 STAP set. LEGO.com’s May the 4th and Revenge of the 5th Plans

LEGO_SW_May4th2012_POSTCARD_041212.indd

StarWars.LEGO.com just released their plans to celebrate the unofficial Star Wars day, May the 4th. And I guess their claiming May 5th as their own as well, dubbing it as Revenge of the 5th. Terrible. Anyways, there is an online virtual build of a mystery mosaic starting on the 4th with the final reveal happening the day after. There are two ways to participate. Method 1: go online to the LEGO website, log on with your LEGO ID and upload a picture of a Star Wars creation. Method 2: stop by a LEGO Brand Retail store and either bring your MOC or build one in the store, and a store associate will help you upload it to the site. How any of this will help “build” a virtual mosaic is beyond me but don’t dismiss the marketing efforts just yet. One lucky photo will be chosen as the winner and the submitter will win a desktop-size LEGO Darth Maul. See? That right there makes it worth it.

There’s a website up and running right now, LEGOStarWarsMosaic.com, where you can check out all the legalese and it’ll link straight to LEGO’s site. No telling yet if anything else will show up.

Star Wars Days Update: Volunteer Shirt, Podracers

Volunteer Shirt

Just a quick update on Star Wars Days at LEGOLAND CA (March 31-April 1).

All time slots for volunteers have been filled. Thank you to everyone who replied and confirmed. The picture above is the shirt that the volunteers will be receiving. And before you ask, this shirt IS NOT/WILL NOT be for sale. They are given only to the volunteers to the various clubs participating that day. The back of the shirt will have the name of the clubs involved.

CALLING ALL PODRACERS: FBTB will be giving away cash to one lucky podracer that is displayed throughout the weekend. Fifty big ones (You’ll need paypal to receive the funds). It’s simple: wrap up your podracer extremely carefully, put it in a box and mail it to me. A jury panel consisting of Don, Ryan, and myself will judge which one we like best and notify the winner. After the weekend, I’ll mail all the podracers back to their respective owners and throw in an FBTB t-shirt as a way of saying “thanks”. Interested? Send us a message. All podracers must be received by March 24th to qualify. Interested in dropping off/displaying in person? Send us a message and we’ll work out the details.

Darth Maul Returns In New Clone Wars Trailer

After last seasons teaser at the end of the “Nightsisters” arc, fans have been waiting to see the return old half ‘n half. If there’s one thing the Clone Wars is good at, it’s keeping viewers in suspense through incredibly long stretches between accompanying arcs. I’ve been waiting to see this tease pay off and it seems like it could be one of the best arcs of the season with the two part season finale starting on March 9th with the episode “Brothers”, then finishing March 16th with “Revenge”. Fans of the Nightsisters storylines should be in their glory for the next four weeks starting with tonights “Massacre”. I’m guessing this will be another arc I’d hessitate to let my son watch, but I can’t say no to anything that features the voice talent of Clancy Brown. There’s even a behind the scenes featurette about Sam Witwer’s work to bring Darth Maul to the small screen for those who enjoy an overdose of spoilers.
