[SDCC] LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Hobbit Retail Exclusives Revealed, BTTF For Sale

sw hobbit

On sale starting today are not one but TWO retail exclusives that you can purchase only at the LEGO booth during the con.

The LEGO Star Wars exclusive is Jek-14 MINI Stealth Starfighter. Following cues from last year’s convention specials, the MINI Stealth Starfighter has a chibi aesthetic to it from its miniature form with its exposed cockpit and seated pilot lending to the exaggerated “head” size. The price for this set is $39.99 and will net you 105 pieces.

The Hobbit exclusive is Micro Scale Bag End. The set seems to include Bilbo Baggins in the same neat collectible packaging style as the Star Wars exclusive. The price for this set is also $39.99 and will get you 130 pieces.

We’ll be providing reviews as soon as we get our hands on the sets.

Also, the booth is selling the 21103 Back to the Future Time Machine set. This is not an exclusive, there is nothing special about this version. This is the same version you get if you were to buy it elsewhere. Price is $34.99

Finders Keepers!

Finders Keepers!

Iain “Ochre Jelly” Heath built these figures because he felt (along with many others) that the One Ring from the official LEGO sets was ridiculously out-of-scale with the mini-figs. Honestly, I don’t care what his reasons were, I’m just really glad that he built these fantastic figs and that I’ve already purchased tickets for my favourite seats at the Friday premier here.

LEGO Store Lord of the Rings Scavenger Hunt

LEGO Store Promo

I received this email earlier today and posting it here in case you didn’t. In a nutshell, you can participate in a LOTR-themed scavenger hunt inside your local LEGO store with a wide range of activities. The link to print your own map of Middle-earth seems to be broken, but hopefully it will be up soon. Other than the hunt, you have a chance to win a free LOTR set. It may not be the Build-a-Bilbo scavenger hunt at ComicCondor, but it’s probably worth checking out if you have kids and need something to do. The promotion lasts through August 5th.

SDCC Build-a-Bilbo Activity

Map of ComicCondor

Yesterday, we revealed the Bilbo Baggins minifig you get to build today. Today we’re going to show you the two extras you get for the acivity. First up is a map of ComicCondor you use to go to the other booths to get the invidual minifig elements that make up Bilbo. There were four in total: LEGO’s booth (you start here to collect the map, the bag, and the hair element), Mondo to get the legs, Weta to get the head and Warner Bros. to get the body. The other piece you get is a cloth pouch with a tag with the LEGO Hobbit logo on one side and the other has the Comic Con logo with the words “2012 Exclusive”. The Bilbo Baggins minifig is identical to the one you’ll get this December in a set. It’s the map and the little pouch that are truly exclusive.

This was a pretty limited event as there were not a lot of maps and pouches to go around and you couldn’t get any of the other elements without the map. Each of the locations marked the map with a sticker to show that the piece was collected. So people who came late were out of luck.
