Snyder Reveals Another Picture Of New Batmobile

Yesterday morning, someone spotted the new Batmobile parked in a back alley somewhere in Detroit. If one of the pictures hadn’t captured the staff driver sitting in it fiddling with his phone, you could almost have imagined Batman parking it there so he could run into a 7/11 to buy breakfast burrito and a six pack of Red Bull. I suppose you still could if he just forgot to lock it and someone exploited the opportunity to grab a selfie in the Batmobile.

Presumably stinging from being beaten to the punch by a random Instagramer, Zach Snyder posted the picture below of a cleaned up and more aggressively postured Batmobile. I have to admit that it seems very similar to the one from the upcoming Arkham Knight game. I’ve always found it odd that a character who was so vehemently against the use of guns always seemed to have them on his vehicles.

As we have with the last two onscreen versions of the Batmobile, I’ve no doubt we’ll see this in LEGO form when the movie is released on March 25th. 2016. Hopefully, the the sets based on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (still sounds like the court case of the century), are better than the crop from Man of Steel.

LEGO Needs To Make More UCS Batmobiles

Tumbler on the Shelf

After I reviewed 76023 The Tumbler, it promptly went up on my shelf. I cleared out some other models to make room for it and by “cleared out” I pretty much mean threw everything that was in the way on to the ground. I know I gave it a 4 out of a possible 5 but like I said in the review, it’s a great looking model and unless I’m staring at it for extended periods of time, the flaws don’t really bother me that much. I like looking at all the weird angles, the big balloon tires in the front, the expertly crafted winshield. My shelf isn’t very big so I’ll vroom it a little back and forth. It was during a fierce session of vrooming one night that I started thinking about the obvious: LEGO needs to make more UCS Batmobiles.

The Tumbler is huge and very detailed and the LEGO model, lack of Batpod aside, managed to capture it all fairly successfully, enough to pass muster from a casual glance and an occasional vroom. Looking at it, there on my shelf, I think to myself how cool it would be to have more UCS Batmobiles. And not just any old one that’s appeared in the films and TV because, let’s face it, there’s a lot of them not all of them have the same appeal as the Tumbler. The comics alone have heaps upon heaps of Batmobiles and the general public probably wouldn’t recognize any of them. But if LEGO took something from TV or film, something people are familiar with, something people have developed an affection for, and created some kick-ass UCS sets, I have no doubt they would be successful. The key is to pick the right vehicles to go with.

It would be super easy and not to mention just plain lazy to just pick out all the Batmobiles from all of the films to date. After all, in terms of exposure they are probably the ones that most fans of Batman, hardcore and casual alike, over the age of 30 would recognize and are familiar with. But that would be way too easy and doesn’t acknowledge the contributions that other entertainment genres have given on this subject matter. So let’s spread the love around a bit show some love to the Batmobiles from film, television, video games, and comics.

Review: 76013 Batman: The Joker’s Steam Roller

1

Continuing with the campy vibe of the Penguin Face Off set comes this latest attack from the clown prince of crime. Time for me to roll all over this set like a 20 tonne road compactor filled with hungry hyenas. Let the rant begin!

[SDCC] LEGO Comic Con Exclusive TV Series Batmobile Set Revealed

Batmobile Exclusive

These images of the final Comic Con exclusive set landed in my inbox a few minutes ago. The Batmobile set is in the same Chibi style as the other two sets. Assuming the photos represent final product shots, the set includes both a Batman and Robin that are identical to the ones you get from the Batman Juniors set Defending the Batcave. It’s a bit disappointing as this would have been a great opportunity to make more show-accurate versions.

LEGO DC SDCC Exclusive Package

The packaging looks very similar to the packaging from last year’s exclusives using cardboard boxes. There are 1,000 made of each of the Comic Con exclusive sets. The LEGO booth will be selling 250 of each set every day of the convetion starting Thursday for $39.99.

I know what I’m getting.

[SDCC] LEGO Systems Unveils New Products, Experiences and Exclusives at San Diego Comic-Con

The-Collector

LEGO put out the following press release detailing just about everything that’s going on with their booth, exclusives, and announcements for this year’s San Diego Comic Con. A couple of things that stand out:

  • You will be able to build and take home whatever model creations you make. They’ve always had a free build area but I think this is the first year they are allowing people to take their models home with them.
  • There will be a gallery of every LEGO Star Wars minifigure ever made. Now THIS I’ve got to see.
  • There will be a life-sized model of the Batcycle from the classic TV series complete with sidecar made entirely out of LEGO.
  • A LEGO Hobbit set based on the third and final movie will be unveiled. Also, Bard the Bowman will be given away on Thursday.
  • Unikitty will be given away on Sunday.
  • If you can’t attend this year’s Comic Con and still want a chance to win some of the minifigures, follow @LEGO_Group for a chance to win via Twitter.

Some things we still don’t know are what the classic TV series Batmobile exclusive set looks like, the identity of the DC Comics minifigure, and which day you can win the Marvel and DC minifigures. We do know that those two figures will be Friday and Saturday though. Full press release below:

[SDCC] BrickJournal Panel and LEGO Batman Comic Info

PinupColor2Small

Yes, more and more LEGO fun to check out at SDCC keeps popping up. Joe Meno will be hosting a panel for BrickJournal Magazine on July 26th fro 5 to 6pm. If you’re a fan of the publication, you’ll want to take the opportunity to check out what’s going on behind the scenes and pick Joe’s brain if you’re down with the Q’s and the A’s. I’ve only me Joe once at the 2013 Toy Fair in New York, but there was work to be done and many, many people to meet, so there was no picking of brains that day.

Also on the 26th at the LEGO booth there will be an exclusive LEGO Batman comic giveaway and signing. Artist Paul Lee and writer Rachel Lareau will be on hand to autograph this limited comic (pictured above) containing new original art and Club LEGO comics collected together for the first time. Only hitch… it’ll be between 5 & 6pm, so choose wisely.

[SDCC] More LEGO Comic Con Exclusives Revealed: Ghost Ship, Unikitty? And an Upcoming Movie Set Revealed

Eagle-eyed contributor Tohst spotted this Yahoo! Movies article revealing a few more goodies in store for us attending San Diego Comic Con.

First up is a Unikitty whose face changes from “Cuteskitty” to “Cheerkitty” with a flick of a wrist. I’m guessing this Unikitty is bigger than the brick built one you get in a set, maybe about the same size as the awesome keychain light. That being said, I don’t believe that it is one of the four exclusive minifigs that LEGO plans to give away and it is probably just an item for sale at the booth.

Next is a reveal for an upcoming set based The LEGO Movie coming out January 2015. It looks to be a small set featuring Batman, Angry Kitty, a Micromanager, and a skeleton. Hopefully this picture isn’t cropped and hiding a gigantic model in the background somewhere because this would be a cheap way to get Angry Kitty even though she is a different design than the one that comes in Emmet’s Construct-o-Mech.

The second reveal is the Star Wars themed retail exclusive mentioned in my previous article, The Ghost ship. Retailing for $39.99 it features the R2 unit, Chopper. And being built in the same Chibi style as Rocket’s Warbird, my hope of a full-sized TV series Batmobile is quickly diminishing. The Ghost, Batmobile, and Warbird all retail for $39.99 and are limited to 250 each per day of the con not including preview night.

The LEGO Movie Megafigures

Group Shot

Forum member Gooker1 emailed me today these set of pictures showing promotional megafigures for The LEGO Movie found at his local AMC theaters. I’m sure everyone’s drooling over Batman, but I’d take that Wyldstyle in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, they will eventually go back to the studio. What happens to them after that will be a mystery. I’m sure though that they will end up in the hands of a lucky duck or two.

Meet The LEGO Movie Characters

Meet Wyldstyle

LEGO posted on their YouTube channel a series a videos introducing some of the major characters starting a few days ago. Batman went up earlier today.. They are all pretty short, each about half a minute long. They all say that a new trailer will be released pointing to October 31st as the date. We’ll be posting the trailer once it goes live and we find it.

Ben Affleck is Your Batman For The Foreseeable Future

batman_2652618b

Just as the dust was settling of news that Ben Affleck would be playing Batman in the sequel to Zach Snyder’s Man of Steel sequel, revelations came out today from The Telegraph that Affleck has signed on to play the dark knight in multiple films beyond Man of Steel which would most likely include the Justice League movie in development. The article points to this Hollywood Reporter article that breaks down the talks and dealings that went on behind the scenes on how this all happened. There doesn’t seem to be any evidence that he will star in a Batman movie where he will be the sole super hero, but rather in sequels to the Superman franchise. Whether or not that is good or bad news remains to be seen.

Let’s see if we can go a day without any more Affleck news…
