Review: 76020 Knowhere Escape Mission

76020 Knowhere Escape Mission 1

I was supposed to review the 76020 Knowhere Escape set way back when the Guardians of the Galaxy sets first hit the shelves. I had it built up and photographed and everything. My opinion of the set at the time wasn’t all that positive: a mediocre set released out of context. It’s not so much of a problem for something like a vehicle-based set, especially one where the final model is so aesthetically pleasing and satisfying to play with that context hardly matters, like 76021 The Milano Spaceship Rescue. However, that is not the case for Knowhere Escape. It is such a mish mash of different things that you needed the context to understand why the set was put together the way it is. And unfortunately, knowing the context didn’t help the final review score; it just made it worse.

Guardians of the Galaxy, X-men Sets Now Available

76021_alt1

Excited about Guardians of the Galaxy? Excited enough to want the LEGO sets? Well today is your lucky day as all three sets based on the upcoming movie are available now directly from LEGO Shop@Home:

For those of you keeping score, you’ll only need the two most expensive sets (76021 The Milano Spaceship Rescue and 76020 Knowhere Escape Mission) to get the full cast.

Also, not Guardians of the Galaxy, but if you’ve been waiting to get the overpriced X-men set, 76022 X-Men vs. The Sentinel ($49.99 for 336 pieces), that too is also available today.

Lego Guardians of the Galaxy Sets on Amazon.co.uk

Late last week, pictures of the new Galaxy of the Guardians sets surfaced on the various sites around the interweb, and it looks like Amazon.co.uk has them up for order and “fulfillment within 1 to 2 months.” This seems to speak to a release soon, though Amazon.com in the US doesn’t tend to do Lego pre-orders. For our friends across the big blue wet thing, you can go grab them now… for everyone else, enjoy the images!

I’m digging the Star-lord look, it’s grown on me a bit, though I really hope that it has a true hairpiece to throw on if you take off the mask. I also think that Gamora is a bit overdressed, and Rocket looks a touch too big… but that doesn’t change the fact that I will buy absolutely every one of these sets when they hit. That small set with Star-lord looks like a real standout, with the dark blue and yellow, that awesome new pistol, and of course, flick-fires! Not sure about that brick-built Groot though… kinda wish he was more hulk-like.

We’ll post more pictures as we get them in for the sets…
