Price Wars! Amazon vs. Walmart On Select LEGO Star Wars Sets

75021 Republic Gunship

Amazon and Walmart are having a bit of a price war, matching each other’s discount on a couple of sets. I’m not sure who fired the first volley but we are all winners. Discounts are applied on some of the older sets that will be retiring soon if they haven’t been already. This is just a sample list of some of the larger sets. Some battle packs may also be discounted down to $10 or less.

Amazon Discounts LEGO Star Wars, Super Heroes

If you missed out on the BOGO 40% deal earlier this week, there are a couple of things you should know. First, even though the LEGO items have been removed from this page, the discounts still seems to apply. For example, 75019 AT-TE is currently listed at $66.31, 26% off of MSRP of $89.99. Having two of them in my cart adds up to $132.62. On the final page before checkout, the BOGO 40% promotion kicks in, applying a discount of -$26.52, bringing my total down to $106.10 before any tax is applied. It seems though that some of you were having trouble getting the BOGO discount to work. Keep in mind that the discount is 40% off only the item that is equal or lesser value, and only one discount will be applied per cart. Some of the sets where the discount still applies include 75019 AT-TE, 75003 A-wing Starfighter, 75040 General Grievous’ Wheel Bike, and 75022 Mandalorian Speeder. It seems some of the others sets are sold out from Amazon and offered by third party sellers, and thus not eligible for promotion. Not entirely sure when the promotion ends; it says “while supplies last” so don’t hesitate if you’re looking for a deal, especially on that AT-TE.

Secondly, Amazon has applied some pretty nice discounts across a range of sets, starting at 20% going all the way up to a whopping 37%:

And lastly, some Super Heroes sets are also discounted, ranging from 20% up to 26% off:

Several Star Wars sets on Sale on

No idea who the price war is with this time, but it looks like there are a whole bunch of sets going on sale on Amazon, including some sets that we rated as “good when on sale,” like the AT-TE (26% off) and some that we rated as good regardless, and even better when on sale, like the Republic Gunship (19% off).

Thus far, I’ve run across these sales that are significant. Several others are seeing lesser discounts as well… sadly none of the 2014 stuff yet, but we’ll keep an eye out. These usually come in waves.

75020 Jabbas Sail Barge

Still got Christmas money laying around, unspent? Amazon’s applying a nice 31% discount on 75020 Jabbas Sail Barge bringing the $119.99 set down to a mere $83.29 before any tax. The set ships for free.

Amazon Discounts Sail Barge, Gunship by 29%

75020 Jabba's Sail Barge

These are probably one of the most significant discounts we’ve seen on this pair of sets since their debut back in August. Right now, Amazon is applying a 29% discount on both 75020 Jabba’s Sail Barge and 75021 Republic Gunship bringing their prices down to $84.99, down from $119.99 MSRP. Amazon usually applies a discount to match another online retailer but checking the usual suspects yields no competitive match. This one seems to be all Amazon.

Also, if you’ve missed this the first couple of times we mentioned it, 75019 AT-TE seems to be on perma-discount at $60.99, a 32% discount off of $89.99 MSRP, thanks to Target selling it at that price.

Amazon Discounts 75019 AT-TE by 32%, Others On Sale

75019 AT-TE

Amazon is swinging their discount hammer all high and mightily and is offering some sweet discounts on new sets. Like the title says, they are offering 75019 AT-TE for 32% off, just $60.99, down from $89.99.

75021 Republic Gunship is only 20% off, down to $95.99 from $119.99 MSRP.

75020 Jabba’s Sail Barge is better, at 25% off, down to $89.99 from $119.99 MSRP.

Though not really all that new, 75018 Jek-14’s Stealth Starfighter is commanding a respectable 27% off, down to $50.99 from $69.99 MSRP.

Get’em while gettin’s good. Especially that AT-TE. I doubt that price would last for long.

Amazon Discounts 75020 Jabba’s Sail Barge by 20%

75020 Jabba's Sail Barge

Amazon is applying a solid 20% discount on 75020 Jabba’s Sail Barge bringing the price down to $95.99 from $119.99 MSRP. This beats our last mention by $8 dollars. Jabba’s Sail Barge comes with Jabba the Hutt, R2-D2, Princess Leia in slave outfit, Max Rebo, Weequay and Ree-Yees.

They’ve also applied a 25% discount on 9500 Sith Fury-class Interceptor bringing that price down to $67.92 from $89.99 MSRP.

Most of the other prices noted in our previous post are still good, too!

Review: 75020 Jabba’s Sail Barge

Sail Barge - Full Set

In more than one thread on our forums, I’ve called out 2006’s 6210 – Jabba’s Sail Barge as my all-time favorite Star Wars LEGO set. It was a crown jewel of any collection (at least until the UCS Falcon came out), and has held up remarkably over the years. If for no other reason, it finally gave us a reason to embrace the Fleshy figure transition by giving us both Lando and Slave Leia.

Of course, now seven years later, we’re getting a new Sail barge set, the fourth in what is almost a mini-theme of overpriced Jabba the Hut sets. It begs the question: are the new Jabba the Hutt figures painted by blind Tibetan monks? What else would justify the high prices for these sets… wait, the Rancor set was high too. Maybe there’s some secret deal to charge fans of the OT more for these things, I don’t know.

At $120, the new Sail Barge represents a 60% increase in price over the previous set, and adds a whopping 69 extra pieces. Of course, we do get three brand new figures, including the much-requested Max Rebo, along with an updated Slave Leia and the same Jabba from the palace and R2-D2 with a plate.

Inflation since 2006 has been about 16% (thanks, internet), so we have to ask the question… does this set justify the other 44% of wallet shock?
