Amazon and Walmart are having a bit of a price war, matching each other’s discount on a couple of sets. I’m not sure who fired the first volley but we are all winners. Discounts are applied on some of the older sets that will be retiring soon if they haven’t been already. This is just a sample list of some of the larger sets. Some battle packs may also be discounted down to $10 or less.

No idea who the price war is with this time, but it looks like there are a whole bunch of sets going on sale on Amazon, including some sets that we rated as “good when on sale,” like the AT-TE (26% off) and some that we rated as good regardless, and even better when on sale, like the Republic Gunship (19% off).
Thus far, I’ve run across these sales that are significant. Several others are seeing lesser discounts as well… sadly none of the 2014 stuff yet, but we’ll keep an eye out. These usually come in waves.
The headline may not sound like much, but bear with me. If your shopping cart reaches $100 or more, you will save an additional 20% off of LEGO items, even items that are already on sale and discounted. Example: I added 3x 75005 Rancor Pit to my cart. Each set is priced on sale for $38.95 and my cart total is $116.85 before any tax. After the 20% discount, the total drops down to $93.48 bringing the price per set down to $31.16. I use my REDCard to save an additional 5%, bringing the cart total down to $88.81, or just $29.60 per set!
You’ll notice that after Amazon’s crazy Cyber Monday prices, a lot of the more popular items are out of stock and now being offered by third party resellers. Target still has a lot of good stuff available and on sale across a variety of themes so click around and you might find something worth getting. aa
There is one small catch with their promotion: the larger sets such as the 10188 Death Star, 10937 Arkham Asylum, 10232 Palace Cinema, etc., seem to be excluded from the 20% off sale even though I cannot seem to locate any sort of exclusion list. Here’s the exact text:
Offer Available Online Only. Save 20% when you spend $100 on qualifying LEGO items. Quantities limited. Discount applied at checkout. May not be applied to previous orders. Clearance items excluded. Offer expires 12/3/2013 at 11:59pm PT.
Still, a good sale. Sale ends tonight at midnight Pacific.
Ahead of the holiday shopping blitz, Amazon is discounting an oldie but a goodie, 9516 Jabba’s Palace, dropping the price down to $81.99, down from $119.99. That’s a 32% discount on MSRP. This is in response to Target.com lowering their price on the set by the same amount.
It’s companion piece, 75005 Rancor Pit, seems to be on perma-discount. Amazon is asking for $44.97 for that set, a 25% drop on MSRP. Target’s price for the Rancor set? $40.99, a 32% discount! Give it some time though, and I’m sure Amazon will match that price.
If you buy from Target and are a REDCard holder, you’ll also get an additional 5% off those already low prices and free shipping!
So you went to Jabba’s Palace with an elaborate, multi-tiered plan to break out your favourite smuggler/coffee table and you ticked off your host by walking in, killing his guards, brainwashing his toadies and threatening him. Obviously, Yoda didn’t teach you any manners in that five minute training montage that culminated in you deciding that getting your butt whooped in your first real fight meant you were now a full-fledged Jedi Knight. I don’t suppose any of those plans you made included the fact that Jabba has a gigantic, hungry and decidedly not particular about who it eats, creature in a hole directly under the spot you chose to tell that fat disgusting man-slug how things were going to go down, or else. I didn’t think so.
Welcome to the Rancor Pit.
Methinks Amazon is trying to make some room for the summer wave of sets by discounting a bunch of older sets. Rather than make 1 post for each set I’ll just a list a bunch of them here. Nearly everything is on sale 20% off or more. I’m not sure if Walmart’s or Target’s prices are comparable or if either of them discounted their own stock to trigger Amazon’s discounts, but no matter the reason, now would be a great time to fill the holes in your collection on the cheap.

Amazon has slashed the price of 75005 Rancor Pit down to $44.07, 27% off of MSRP. At prices like this, you could potentially build a Rancor army. He’s no Space Marine, but get a couple of them and you got your heavy infantry… just sayin’…. also, 9516 Jabba’s Palace is also still marked down 27% at $87.99.

Following up on their flash sale of the Hutt’s palace, Amazon has slashed the price of 75005 Rancor Pit by 27%. It is now ringing up at $44.07! And like the palace set, I don’t expect the price to stay this low for too long so strike while the iron is hot would be my advice.
Update: The deal has expired.
Amazon, your friendly neighborhood sales outlet, has discounted 9516 Jabba’s Palace by a 27% off. It now sits pretty at $87.17. The companion pieces are also seeing a slight discount: 9496 Desert Skiff is 21% off at $19.79 and 75005 Rancor Pit is 13% off at $51.97.
