Amazon and Walmart are having a bit of a price war, matching each other’s discount on a couple of sets. I’m not sure who fired the first volley but we are all winners. Discounts are applied on some of the older sets that will be retiring soon if they haven’t been already. This is just a sample list of some of the larger sets. Some battle packs may also be discounted down to $10 or less.

If you missed out on the BOGO 40% deal earlier this week, there are a couple of things you should know. First, even though the LEGO items have been removed from this page, the discounts still seems to apply. For example, 75019 AT-TE is currently listed at $66.31, 26% off of MSRP of $89.99. Having two of them in my cart adds up to $132.62. On the final page before checkout, the BOGO 40% promotion kicks in, applying a discount of -$26.52, bringing my total down to $106.10 before any tax is applied. It seems though that some of you were having trouble getting the BOGO discount to work. Keep in mind that the discount is 40% off only the item that is equal or lesser value, and only one discount will be applied per cart. Some of the sets where the discount still applies include 75019 AT-TE, 75003 A-wing Starfighter, 75040 General Grievous’ Wheel Bike, and 75022 Mandalorian Speeder. It seems some of the others sets are sold out from Amazon and offered by third party sellers, and thus not eligible for promotion. Not entirely sure when the promotion ends; it says “while supplies last” so don’t hesitate if you’re looking for a deal, especially on that AT-TE.
Secondly, Amazon has applied some pretty nice discounts across a range of sets, starting at 20% going all the way up to a whopping 37%:
- 75021 Republic Gunship 20% off, now $95.99
- 75020 Jabba’s Sail Barge 26% off, now $88.99
- 75017 Duel on Geonosis 37% off, now $25.19
- 75019 AT-TE 26% off, now $66.31
- 75004 Z-95 Headhunter 23% off, now $38.46
And lastly, some Super Heroes sets are also discounted, ranging from 20% up to 26% off:
No idea who the price war is with this time, but it looks like there are a whole bunch of sets going on sale on Amazon, including some sets that we rated as “good when on sale,” like the AT-TE (26% off) and some that we rated as good regardless, and even better when on sale, like the Republic Gunship (19% off).
Thus far, I’ve run across these sales that are significant. Several others are seeing lesser discounts as well… sadly none of the 2014 stuff yet, but we’ll keep an eye out. These usually come in waves.
Methinks Amazon is trying to make some room for the summer wave of sets by discounting a bunch of older sets. Rather than make 1 post for each set I’ll just a list a bunch of them here. Nearly everything is on sale 20% off or more. I’m not sure if Walmart’s or Target’s prices are comparable or if either of them discounted their own stock to trigger Amazon’s discounts, but no matter the reason, now would be a great time to fill the holes in your collection on the cheap.
Set Name / Discount % / Price
- 9492 TIE Fighter / 25% / $40.99

- 9490 Droid Escape / 15% / $17.09
Amazon’s running some kind of wacky sale. I hesitated reporting on this sale because a) it’s only 20% and b) I usually find out about it only for it to revert to a higher price before I hit the publish button. Some of these deals seem to be sticking around though.
- 9497 Republic Striker-class Starfighter on sale for $33.13, 26% off MSRP of $44.99
- 75004 Z-95 Headhunter is 20% off at $39.97, down from $49.99
- 9500 Sith Fury-class Interceptor is 21% off at $70.97, down from $89.99
- 9499 Gungan Sub is 20% off at $55.96, down from $69.99
- 75001 Republic Troopers vs Sith Troopers is 20% off at $10.44, down from $12.99
Amazon still has 9496 Desert Skiff marked down 22% down to $19.44.They’ve also lowered the price once again on 9516 Jabba’s Palace down a whopping 27% to $87.97.
- And finally, a reminder that 75003 A-wing Starfighter is 20% off at $20.00 even all week long.
Amazon keeps the discount ball rolling, determined to make your wallets hurt. Forum member DarthBuilder writes in to let us know that 75004 Z-95 Headhunter is discounted 27% off, down to a startling low $35.80
I was more or less offline the past few days enjoying the holidays with the family, so I don’t know exactly when this happened but LEGO Shop@Home now has almost the entire January 2013 assortment online for LEGO Star Wars; no sign yet of the Planet Series 3 sets. Looking at the list, only one set hits above $50 and that’s 75005 Rancor Pit. Everything else is $49.99 or less. Dare I say that this wave seems affordable? Of course, that’s not taking into account the price/piece ratio, but that’s a whole other argument.
Now I know why 75013 Umbaran MHC (Mobile Heavy Cannon) never showed up at Amazon: it’s listed as “Hard to Find” which means it’ll either be a Walmart or Target exclusive set since 75014 Battle of Hoth is exclusive to Toys’R’Us. My money’s on Target for this one.
Amazon has finally posted a listing for 75004 Z-95 Headhunter. Asking price is $49.99 and will be released on December 31 just like all the other 2013 sets. Still no sign of the MHC yet, which I’m dying to get my hands on.
Also, if you haven’t bought/ordered 75005 Rancor Pit, Amazon has it on a slight discount at $56.95, 6% off.
Is it presells or pre-sells? I can never tell. Same with pre-orders and preorders. Which is the correct way?
