Toys’R’Us Includes UCS Sets for BOGO 50%

Toys’R’Us finally included the big UCS sets in their Buy One Get One 50% off LEGO deal this week, and by big UCS sets, I mean 10188 Death Star, 10221 Super Star Destroyer, 10212 Imperial Shuttle, and 10225 R2-D2. 10225 R2-D2 is seeing a slight markup, $20 over MSRP. The other three are right at MSRP so you could see a potential savings of 25% if you pair two items of the same price.

Alternatively, if you live in a state where Amazon doesn’t charge sales tax, you should know that you might see a better deal buying 10221 Super Star Destroyer from there since it’s still priced at $319.99, a 20% discount. 10212 Imperial Shuttle is seeing a 19% discount, $50 off MSRP to ring up at $209.99. And 10225 R2D2? It’s seeing a 22% discount down to $139.97. 10188 Death Star? Still full price but that may change any day now.

Amazon Discounts 10225 R2-D2

Now THIS is a sweet deal. Amazon has discounted 10225 R2-D2 by 22%, dropping the price down to $139.97. I can honestly say that despite it’s flaws, this is a great set to own and would make a great gift for any casual or hardcore LEGO and/or Star Wars fan.

Thanks to Joxer the Mighty for the tip.

[US] Big Sets Discounted at Walmart.com, Amazon.com

UCS SSD

Browsing through the Walmart.com inventory, they have a number of large discounts on the larger Star Wars sets, as well as various other $100+ items. Here are some notable deals:

>>10188 Death Star is $357.89 ($399.99 MSRP)
>>10221 Super Star Destroyer is $335.99 (MSRP $399.99)
>>10225 UCS R2-D2 is $151.19 (MSRP $179.99)
>>10217 Diagon Alley is $125.99 (MSRP $149.99)
>>Modular Building Series is around $120 range ($149.99 MSRP), though most are sold out online.
>>(10224 Town Hall is $161.97 (MSRP $199.99).
>>10231 Shuttle Expedition is $78.27 ($99.99 MSRP)
>>10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper and 10219 Maersk Train are $99-100 (MSRP $119.99)

All of these qualify for $.99 Shipping or free Site-To-Store Shipping, though I’ve heard some troubling stories about Walmart’s shipping quality. Amazon.com has already price-matched some of these like 10231 Shuttle Expedition, 10224 Town Hall, and 10225 R2-D2, and they also qualify for Free Super Saver Shipping.

Review: 10225 R2-D2

10225 R2-D2

It’s been a long time since the LEGO Star Wars line last saw a sculptural set. It was 2002 when 7194 Yoda was new on store shelves. Yoda, along with 10018 Darth Maul, must’ve not been hits since nothing followed, unless you count 10186 General Grievous. I don’t, since it’s a fundamentally different type of set, more closely related to the Star Wars Technic figures. So, if it’s been so many years since Yoda, was the [non-existent] wait for 10225 R2-D2 worth the it? (more…)

Clarification: Early 10225 R2-D2 Orders

Good afternoon, Fubby-Tubbers! I just got an email from LEGO Shop@Home regarding early adopters of 10225 R2-D2:

“Knowing that 10225 – R2-D2™ is brand new product and part of the LEGO® Star Wars™ line there was a concern that the May 1st launch date (unchangeable) could potentially leave a number of consumers purchased the set during the 3 day gap prior to the May the 4th promotion to later be disappointed they had missed the upcoming offers. In an effort to alleviate this customer dissatisfaction, LEGO Shop set up all purchases of 10225 – R2-D2™ to receive the May the 4th offers early. No other purchases will receive the offers prior to May 4th.”

So there you go. Now, please put away your angry eyes and your pitchforks and torches. Hopefully this will alleviate the confusion.

10225 R2-D2 Now Available, Collectible Minifigures Series 7 Too!

The annual May the 4th sales extravaganza is still a few days away, but everyone’s favorite plucky astromech goes on sale today! 10225 R2-D2 is now available in the US for a hefty price tag of $179.99.

But wait there’s more! Also available for sale is Collectible Minifigures Series 7, which contains, without a doubt, THE best minifig ever made. It’s stylish, has all the qualities of making great army building fodder, and comes in an awesome color. That’s right, I’m talking about the Bunny Suit Man:

The great thing about this series is that you can order up to 32 minifigs instead of the old limit of 16, increasing your chances of getting a more complete set. They’re priced at $2.99 a pop though. If you’re patient, you may score free shipping during the May the 4th sale. Those postcards people have been getting didn’t indicate any restriction but I’d imagine you’d have to buy something Star Wars related in order to qualify.

10225 R2-D2 Officially Unveiled

10225_prod

Here’s the official unveiling of everyone’s favorite astromech, 10225 R2-D2. The good news: it comes out in May. The bad news: it’s $180 bucks. Or $230 if you’re really unlucky and live in the great white north. Still, you do get over 2,000 pieces with it, 2,127 to be exact.

Maybe Shop@Home will have some sort of sale or promotion attached to it for their annual May the Fourth Be With You sale.

Sneak Peek Of 10225 R2-D2

10225 R2-D2 Sneak Peek?

If you had the chance to watch the video LEGO posted highlighting the new Town Hall modular, you might have noticed a couple of easter eggs in the first few seconds. If you missed it no worries, the screenshots are presented for you here in all their low-res glory. I know I wasn’t the only one disappointed that the 10225 R2-D2 didn’t make an appearance at Toy Fair, but this is a nice tease to tide us over until it’s unveiled at some future gathering of geeks. I have little doubt this was unintentional on LEGO’s part and still expect to see a proper press release in the future.

Thanks to Walter Boy for the heads up, because I rarely watch the videos. I’m more of a picture guy…

But wait, there’s more. How about a modular sized Haunted House that could be in line with the upcoming Monster Fighters theme?

Good eyes people, good eyes.

2012 Exclusives Set List, UCS (?) R2-D2 and B-wing Included

Thanks to Dutch toy shop Brickshop.nl and Brickset for breaking the news, we now have a glimpse of LEGO’s UCS/Shop@Home exclusives for 2012. And the list is with the most interesting parts highlighted:

  • 10223 Kingdoms Joust
  • 10224 Town Hall
  • 10225 R2-D2
  • 10226 Sopwith Camel
  • 10227 B-Wing

The B-wing set excites me the most as it is one of my favorite ships from the OT. I can only assume that it would be either proper minifig scale ship or heaven help me a UCS ship. If the latter, then I’ll squeal like a little girl. I cannot wait to see it given the UCS treatment. As far as R2-D2, pure speculation on my part but it could look like this:

Target R2-D2

The above image was the model displayed in Target stores many years back as a promotional gimmick. You had to guess the number of bricks used to win the model. I could also imagine a Power Functions type of model with special sound bricks, remote control, and motors galore.

Thanks to JamesBenjamin for reposting the list on our forums.

It should be noted that Brickshop.nl took down their pages. Brickset also has complied with LEGO’s request, but given this day and age of information, the internet, and the speed in which it can be disseminated, do they honestly think they can put the toothpaste back in the tube? We’ll see if any such takedown notices come my way, in the meantime, share your thoughts in our existing thread.
