Back in 2000, I had the opportunity to tour the Models and Events building in Enfield, CT. Throughout, there were a myriad number of things to see as you can imagine.
Imagine my surprise to find what I considered to be one of the most interesting of all items to be sitting at the workspace of Erik - what looked to be several city blocks crammed onto a 48x48 plate. But then I quickly realized that I was looking at the LexCorp Building - and the Daily Planet - and the Daily Bugle . . .
New Gothopolis was made to be a 'pencil holder' in Erik's spare time and features several landmarks in comic book geography. In addition to the above mentioned places, you also have the Gotham Police Dept, the Baxter Building, the Tick's apartment (located right above the Evil Eye Café) and the mansion of Dr. Strange; Wayne Manor sits on a corner and of course you have to have a bank for the villains to rob - there's even a pawn shop for items that the heroes and villains no longer use.*
So you think it looks cool - and then you see the inside of the buildings! There are quite a few interesting details hidden within the buildings, such as Reed Richard's lab in the Baxter Building or the offices inside the Daily Planet (you'll even find mild-mannered Clark Kent changing into Supes in the revolving doorway!) He has also managed to find places to store a few landmark vehicles, such as the Punisher's van and of course, the Batmobile.
And of course you have to have minifigs - check out the thumbs below for more.
* Items, according to Erik, such as Green Goblin's original goblin flyer (the one that looks like a broomstick from his first appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #14), the Molecule Man's wand (which he used to use to focus his powers), Prof. Xavier's Cerebro helmet, H.E.R.B.I.E. (Franklin Richard's robotic baby-sitter), Loki's helmet, the Red Skull's Cosmic Cube, The Phantom Zone projector (on loan from Superman's Fortress of Solitude), The Golden-Age Green Lantern's lantern (hey....he's retired and wont be needing it.) and last but not least, on display in the front window is MachineMan.
