While LEGO's recent UCS Y-wing set isn't in classic UCS scale, it made me want to revisit some of the detail on mine, and do a major overhaul of the one part of the ship neglected in the last overhaul; the cockpit.

With great pleasure, I present my custom UCS Y-wing, version 2.5.

Since version 1, the body has been reduced to a more correct shape, the arms to the engines have been slimmed out, and the engines are more uniform now, and I went totally loco with the body details. Since version 2, I updated the cockpit, and changed a few other minor details.

LEGO had a good idea with those wedges on the cockpit, but it took a bit more work to carry that design through to the rest of the shape. As you can see, the same wedges are used upside-down on the bottom.

After version 1, I put tubes over the technic axles so the pylons would look more movie accurate. In the latest update, I tightened up some of the tube detail so it would look more squarish, and tweaked a few other details.

Another nice nice effect of the changes to the pylons is that it reduces the appearance of droop. In the latest revision, I used white light sabre blades to correct an error at the front of the engines. Also, I built a slightly larger R2. I'll explain why on the details page.

You can see more of the cockpit area, R2 and other changes under the details sections.
