I recently disassembled the remains of my RBR set, and was thinking, "You know what I could make out of this?" Presenting the UCS Republic Gunship, v2.0!

I got a lot of constructive criticism on this model after the first version (see progress gallery) and most of it was spot on. Of course, I couldn't produce clear panels to repace the light blue but I could increase the detail, add the grey panelling, improve the shaping in a few subtle spots, and, most importantly, eliminate the ugly black columns supporting the rear section.

One of the reasons I didn't add the panelling initially is that grey trim on white looks kind of icky. But NEW Light Grey and Very Light Grey look really good against white. To me this just makes it all the more a shame that the new colors are replacements instead of additions. When people are right, they're right though; it certainly looks a LOT better with the grey panels. You can also see in this shot the improved shaping of the very front, under the turrets.

Notice the distinct lack of columns. Those grey liftarms carry the entire weight of the rear and wings, and also serve as an attachment point for the rear hatch. Also, you can see the raised roof in the cargo area, and how it slopes upward to the rear. I wish I could've come up with a way to make a bigger Republic logo, but I didn't want to use a sticker.

For the record, I'm not super-happy with the trans light blue EITHER, but those panels don't come in any better colors, not that getting THESE ones wasn't hard enough! Check out the "in progress" link for an alternate design.

You all remember Heather, right? I'm not sure what it is about this model that makes it completely fail to convey size. Even in real life, you would never suspect this of being bigger than my y-wing or b-wing, but it is. That's why I decided to include a couple comparison shots.

System scale RGS on loan from the Joe Meno collection. My version is actually over half the width, length AND height of the official set. In fact the bottom half fits cleanly in my cargo hold!

The revolver-action rocket launchers were one of my favorite details, though it does seem rather ripe for sabotage or well-placed grenades.
