LL918A - Retro Classic Space Podracer
My first public MOC. It seemed to make sense for my first competition entry to run with a theme that works with my login name. Also I have been house-sitting for my mum and my old LEGO collection is here (I still keep it strictly segregated from my adult collection for some reason.) The other reason to go retro instead of neo classic space is that I am not yet going to try to compete with the likes of Nnenn, Peter Morris etc.
So here we go (and please forgive me if my first attempt to insert images and links fails.)
FlickrEven though the podrace scene in the movie is so tedious that I never had any desire to buy an official podrace set, this was a fun exercise. The pods went through a few distinct versions to evolve to this point that I am reasonably happy with. I found the cockpit more problematic, ended up with something that in plan view resembles the classic space logo. No hidden weapons - this is classic space remember. There is a little storage compartment behind the pilot, and it is of course too small to hold the walkie-talkie. I haven't photoshopped the energy beam because I was quite happy with the old trans flexi-hoses - in a way they were the start of the whole thing. So the only real photoshopping of the model itself is the addition of the letter A.
So I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the entries, then let the racing begin!
