Postby Solo » Sun Nov 17, 2013 3:26 am

This is now the polling thread for the ships shown above. This poll will be open for exactly 48 hours so get those votes in quick! You can still view the entries below. Contestants: this is a friendly reminder that no changes are allowed after the deadline, so your posts will be locked and if any of the photos in them change you will be disqualified.

This is the submission thread for the pilots listed above. Your letter this round is Q.

The deadline for this round is 8pm Pacific time next Sunday, November 24th.

Post your starfighter photos below. Include one photo you'd like to use as the polling image, one photo demonstrating the letter, and one showing your pilot in the cockpit. Standard photography restrictions apply.

At least whichever one of us wins this round will have "i" next.

Q Fighter

3 years after the Battle of Yavin, Rebel Rook is assigned to routine escort missions between Ison and Bespin. The Rebel fleet is spread thin far and wide, and missions are dangerous. The Empire is about to find out the Q is more formidable than it looks.

The q-bomber was a prototype bomber produced by Incom.

Affectionately known as the "Snail"; the fighter is a slow but precise bomber and in the absence of a hyperdrive is rendered totally dependent on carrier ships. The q-bomber also lacks landing gear that can support the "shell" typically if a q-bomber is successful in dropping its entire pay load it would be required to shed the empty bomb carriage and head straight back to it's host ship (it has been known, on occasion to great affect, for the shell and its payload to be released on unsuspecting Star Destroyers and enemy strong holds). Snails are usually released from specially fitted racks in hangar bays gifting the fighter a, much needed, boost.

The Snail is a rare fighter, the inability to produce more "bomb carriages" has become its undoing...unless the Rebel Alliance can produce more carriages or improve the fighter's landing gear to support the shell; these fighters will become obsolete very soon.

Bold move with the lower case "Q". If you win I think that's a big factor. Guess we better both start working on our "I's" just in case. :)

One of the toughest choices. Never would have imagined such awesome entries for a Q.

Hadn't seen the lower case "q" attempted before...thought I'd give it a go.
It was a fun build despite initially thinking it was the worst letter to draw first.

Good luck and in any case you'll know the result before me as it'll be around 4am Wednesday morning in freezing England when they are revealed and I'll be tucked up in bed :)

woah woah woah! Disqualify that dirty limey he's using foul trickery and the soft cushions or something!

Congrats both of you, both these builds are winners, but unfortunately Rook couldn't advance as the flying spaghetti monster truly intended. Great build Mitz, even if you are evil and probably talk funny ;-)

very well played Rook, this was a tough letter and in the end there were just eight votes in it...here's to hopefully crossing swords again in the future.

as a side note, I can only imagine how hard these contests are to organise and this new format is definitely a really fun way to go. I have a suggestion, which may cut down on the initial workload, and that is to have the first round as a "vote for your top 32" which could then lead into the head to head building rounds. Arguably there would still need to be a level playing ground for the voting stage, so in this format that could have been a choice of 4 letters for all entrants...before moving to the new knockout format....just a thought, of course this maybe more work for the admins but I imagine that setting up 32 rounds was tedious at the very least...

thanks I think. I don't know about talking funny and foul trickery, but evil enough to throw a few soft cushions and some lime at ya ;)

I'm pretty sure last year's contest went more like that when they did the superhero mechs. I'll be watching my back you citrus throwing inquisitor!

Not, bad. When you posted the "q" I got nervous. Only 4 votes the other way and we would have had a tie. :)
