Apologies for entering yet another red-and-white pod, but I hope I'll be forgiven due to my theme. This is the Mach 7 (affectionately known as spod racer)(Click pic):

Speed was out testing a new engine when he broke through the space-time continuum! After flying around lost for a while, he crashed-landed a long time ago at a racecourse far, far away...and being a racer, naturally decided to enter the Boonta Eve Classic! He modified his wreck in order to qualify, retaining the steering wheel, stick shift, and brake lights from the original design (not that he’ll use them much!) Enjoy!

This racer is well known for his violent tendencies on the track. Although his pod sports no "weaponry" his artistic pod design has proved very deadly to numerous competitors.

LL918A - Retro Classic Space Podracer

My first public MOC. It seemed to make sense for my first competition entry to run with a theme that works with my login name. Also I have been house-sitting for my mum and my old LEGO collection is here (I still keep it strictly segregated from my adult collection for some reason.) The other reason to go retro instead of neo classic space is that I am not yet going to try to compete with the likes of Nnenn, Peter Morris etc.

So here we go (and please forgive me if my first attempt to insert images and links fails.)

Even though the podrace scene in the movie is so tedious that I never had any desire to buy an official podrace set, this was a fun exercise. The pods went through a few distinct versions to evolve to this point that I am reasonably happy with. I found the cockpit more problematic, ended up with something that in plan view resembles the classic space logo. No hidden weapons - this is classic space remember. There is a little storage compartment behind the pilot, and it is of course too small to hold the walkie-talkie. I haven't photoshopped the energy beam because I was quite happy with the old trans flexi-hoses - in a way they were the start of the whole thing. So the only real photoshopping of the model itself is the addition of the letter A.

So I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the entries, then let the racing begin!

My take on the Podracer concept is a sci-fi-movie-crossover. Here is Gaff in his Spinner Pod.

Here's my entry: Engineer pod!

Ignore the thing behind the binder, it's support pieces. I suck on photo-shopping so I didn't edit it out.

It probably won't win, but in least I had fun building it, it was a while since my last MOC.

Despite the steep competition here's my entry. The Twin Saber Racer.
It's my first MOC in almost 10 years, so it was great to sit down and just start building again.
Click the picture for the full gallery (Thanks Don), any questions let me know.
Cheers.

The Spartan Slipstream. Designed by Rod Pacer and his assistant Minnie Malist, after they found some mighty PF motors in storage. After much reworking it has strayed somewhat from the very spartan prototype. Port and starboard navigation lights mean this podracer qualifies for travel along commercial shipping lanes when it is not on the racetrack. The open air cockpit comes with a HUD (head-up display) for essential in-flight data.
